I take a mens multivitamin every day with B vitamins. I’m able to do everything I need to do every day. I still have some negative symptoms. I don’t think anything helps with them.
I don’t have schizophrenia, I have anxiety+depression, and I feel like methylfolate and folinic acid have returned me to a employable condition. I lost the ability to translate fast in November 2020, but at least I’ve been able to work as a food delivery guy since March this year. I had started on methylfolate in September 2023, and felt better almost instantly, and added folinic acid injections (i/m) this June, and felt better again.
Both methylfolate and folinic acid are forms of the vitamin B9 (folate) which have a better capacity for reaching the brain.
To be fair, I know only two persons with depression who have felt an improvement on methylfolate, others have written (in a Russian psychiatric web-forum) that they have felt nothing.
Folate improves my mood and also reduces negatives a little bit. B12 reduces my positives a little bit, and makes me emotional. From my experiments B12 is the biggest dopamine producer, so taking it too much may be not good for schizophrenia.
“Intrinsic factor is needed for your body to absorb B-12. For example, only about 10 mcg of a 500mcg oral supplement is actually absorbed in healthy people”
For me 10mcg daily is too much, I become too emotional. So I take 10mcg every 4th day to keep my positives lower. I wish there would be 2mcg pills on the market.
Out of curiosity I tried it again but with just 1 cup of coffee this morning (instead of 2) and it was the same result, i.e. an uncomfortable heart pressure at the end of the day.
I’ll update again when I get 500mcg. 1500mcg is TOO much lol.
Vitamin B12 is essential for many bodily functions, including DNA production and red blood cell formation. However, like any supplement, it can have side effects, especially if taken in high doses or through injections.
Common side effects of Vitamin B12 supplements include:
Mild diarrhea
Itching or skin rash
Headache
Dizziness
Nausea and vomiting¹²
Serious side effects are rare but can occur, particularly with injectable forms:
Pulmonary edema and congestive heart failure (early in treatment)
Vein thrombosis
Sensation of swelling
Polycythemia vera (a rare, slow-growing blood cancer)
Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), which include swelling of the face, tongue, and throat, and difficulty swallowing and breathing¹²
If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, it’s important to seek medical attention immediately. Always consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement to ensure it’s safe and appropriate for your needs.
Do you have any specific concerns about taking Vitamin B12?
I know, I need my vitamins. People are making life difficult. I have MTHFR gene variant. It said something about t-type helped by vitamins, but not cc. I think I’m t-type. Do you know anything about this?
