A homeless guy walked up to me today

I get a needle in my ass every 3 weeks. Don’t tell me my schizophrenia doesn’t define me!

idc what is PC. someday “unhoused” will become non-PC, then whatever new word they make up. because people are uncomfortable with the idea and try to show compassion and get virtue points by doing nothing to solve the actual problem and just using a new word to show they “care”

I know its triggering. People dont like word changes. Its a common conservatism people have.

You get to choose what defines you. I think of myself as a husband, a dad, a photographer, and a chef. My ailments are just what I work around to live my life. But that’s me. You do you, man.

I’m not triggered, I’m bemused. You’re the one who appears to be upset that I have no interest in the new rules you wish for me to live by. Sorry, but I have more important things to do in my day.

Political correctness can go both ways.

Why not just listen to each other and not say things that offend each other.

It’s not that hard.

The argument that people are so sensitive and offended is Bull Sh1t, because we been called offensive words from the start.

The so called sensitive people got the thickest skin in the game, we been called every name in the book, correcting people like saying don’t use the word F@ggot is an example. And people still use that word and it just says the person is a bigot.

This word is still used all the time. This is just one example.

People want to keep demonizing PC - so the war keeps going on.

I put the why in psychotic

Why does it even matter.

I’m kind of in the middle ground. I don’t think people should be jumped on and shouted down because they make a mistake and use a word that is offensive. But I also don’t condone people using the words after they are aware that it offends people.

The quote from you above may be true in some cases, but it’s not always the case. Some people truly are offended by the use of certain words.

I’ll tell you a quick story :

My friend and I were walking home from school one day. I believe we were in junior high at the time. We walked by this creek. There was a disheveled man near the water. I believe he had some temporary shelter built as well.

Anyway, my friend said something about him being a bum. I can’t remember his exact words. He was talking to me and not the homeless man. Dude totally charged us and starting swinging this large branch/stick at us.

I don’t think he was actually trying to hit us, but he took a number of swings at us which we had to dodge out of the way of (being young men with fast reflexes at the time).
To finish off the story, we hurried home to my friends house, which was only 2 houses down from mine and called the police. In the end he was picked and apparently was on PCP, if I’m remembering correctly.

Do you believe this man that charged us was offended at being called a “bum”? I would certainly think so because he tried to scare the bejeezus out of us right after that comment. Obviously this man was not in the right, but language can be offensive to some.

I’m not even one to get offended by most things but we do like to keep things here so that people that do get offended don’t feel marginalized or attacked.

This
I wish I knew how to do it.

We should start a petition on the site!

That’s a nice idea and all but we would have to compromise our anonymity to do so, so I think thats a no go.

I have been homeless and the word didn’t offend me then and doesn’t now. The whole issue is a nothing burger as my daughter says. Not enough people have hobbies to keep them busy.

The problem isn’t the word homeless. The problem is the state of homelessness

Yes. I do think forced treatment is needed for some individuals as well. Not a popular opinion.

The problem is the marginalized homeless community who each have individual problems have been weaponized to be all violent addicts and criminals.

Words do matter and shape public opinions.
