Alcohol can be very difficult to quit.

I had to go to AA.

Congratulations on the 6 weeks sober.

Keep fighting, I haven’t drank anything in 2 years but I was never an alcoholic or drank much. I just had the occasional 1 beer. I stopped it altogether as it makes me feel like ■■■■ and dumb.

Just tell yourself that you’ll stay sober for the next 24 hours. Don’t think about long term.

6 weeks is amazing. Really truly, keep it going because it’s worth it to remain abstinent from alcohol.

As time goes on, these cravings should become less frequent

Take it an hour at a time(heard someone say that once in a meeting). If you need to…

And “play the tape till the end” if you’re an Alcoholic like me who drinks to oblivion once he starts.

Meaning think of the headaches, the dry mouth, the general feelings of world dread, and even the cost money wise!

Congratulations on six weeks sober! That’s incredible.

I’ve been leaning on alcohol as a coping skill a lot lately and I’m trying to work on it too. One thing that helps me is to write down a list of pro’s and con’s for having a drink and not having a drink in the moment. I keep this on hand to look at when I feel the urge to try to lessen my anxiety with alcohol.

12-step programs work too and are life changing. You can find electronic AA groups online where you don’t even need to leave your home. You don’t need to speak or put on your camera if you don’t want to. You can just listen. Going to an AA meeting can help with cravings.

@Happy2Help and @Gamera thank you both of you. Yes I’m considering AA meeting because I think I need support. It is very tough to do it by myself.

You inspire me to go again. It’s probably my ticket out of my doldrums. My life would be a lot better had I stayed with the program when J first dabbled in 2005.

That’s fantastic @anon55055794! You’re close to being over the hump. The first two to three months are the worst and then you’ll find your body adjusting and the cravings subsiding. Do you have any hobbies or activities you can keep yourself busy with? Distraction is the best way to handle a craving.

You can do it, I’ve been drinking daily for the last 2 years, nearly, in feb it’ll be 2 years… this gives me some hope that I too can stop… I have a day or two non drinking days too, but that isn’t good enough!

Stay strong!

It’s hard to quit because the stresses in one’s life that trigger them to use don’t necessarily go away. It’s not easy to learn new coping skills. But it is possible. Congratulations on your 6 weeks!!!

Yes I’m on disability, but I have started studying a bit, so I’m in a class for art and a class for history. And it is very nice to go to classes without being a little drunk, like I was in the spring. I feel I have a lot more energy and my social anxiety is actually getting better too.
I think I read in a post that you yourself are many years sober, that is very cool. I Hope I can do the same.
