Everyone is telling me to try ADs to cure my negative symptoms but my Drs refused prescribing them saying I don’t have depression. So I tried 5htp for a week which increases serotonin and is effective like ADs. At first I felt more calm but then I started feeling psychotic and ended up taking an extra 1mg Risperidone. I read online that ADs can worsen psychosis and mania symptoms. So it didn’t even help my negative symptoms, not even a tiny bit. I guess my Drs are right and I don’t have depression.
Hey. Glad to see you are back.
5-htp didn’t do anything for me.
Aziz!? Where you been bro?
5htp can cause agitation. Ive felt agitation from it.
I take 200mg a day. I think it helps? Lol. Maybe it helps me sleep better
It’s a tough cop but what about old tricyclics and things like wellbuttrin? I do poorly on ssri’s but found the only thing that worked was effexor which kinda does ssri and nor ephiledrine ( sp )?
We can’t diagnose but perhaps another conversation to have with your doctor. It’s not an exact science!
And good to see you back!
AD’s might counteract a AP which is lowering dopamine and serotonin. You might have better luck with a more subtle approach. Some herbs mildly promote serotonin, like turmeric, bacopa and rhodiola. A gentle approach like this might work better. Slightly raising serotonin, but hopefully not so much that it causes a relapse.
The word you’re looking for is norepinephrine, but I much prefer noradrenaline. The former term is used in the USA apparently because “Adrenalin” is a trademark of Parke-Davis.

@schizornot That’s interesting, I didn’t know that.
