If you read the entire article the lawmaker explains why it makes sense. We have 5 counties that have the highest prices for purchasing a house in the nation. I think $50 an hour is high too but I would sure welcome it. As it is now, no one who makes minimum wage in California could afford to buy a house. I make less than $39,000 a year and I’m classified as “extremely low income”.

Something has to happen. Cause rent is too high, there is no cheap rent even in the boonies.

So either raise wages, or the state keeps having to help poor people with all sorts of programs. Like I’m on tons of poverty programs and still debt using credit for basic utilities needs.

Then federal just took away internet assistance.

There is no way in hell they are going to increase the federal minimum wage by 700% . If she was smart she would concentrate on trying to do it in california where its only 3 times the minimum wage. There is absolutely zero chance its going to happen on federal level right now.

I almost have to think its a publicity stunt, as she has to know its never going to happen.

No, we’re only talking about California here, not federal. The article is about California only.

You’re right, she should just try to get that just for California.

wouldnt every company just raise their prices to offset the cost, then everyone would be in the same position except for people who didnt get raises, they would be worse off?

Lol. I would love to get my disability set at 50 dollars an hour at 40 hours a week in Iowa. Lol. I’d make like 8 grand a month.

Probably.

YEah, the economic impact would probably be more complicated than just that, too. You would have to consider how it would affect internationally and stuff too. I’m not an economist, so I’m not going to even attempt a shot at guessing the consequences.

That’s exactly what I think

Mc Donald’s would charge probably over $18 just for one Big Mac alone

Maybe businesses would get more customers at restaurants if people could afford eating out.

But there wouldn’t be a middle class if there wasn’t a lower class.
