all those years I worked part time and paid back into it
I know people who can get 1500 a month
maybe because I was low income, only made about 250 a week.

My mom has the max work credits which is good for like 1500 a month. I get a little below a grand each month because I didn’t have enough work credits to get any higher. I’m lucky I was healthy long enough to earn the ones I do have.
I haven’t checked my bank deposits… okay I just checked, looks like mine went up 27 dollars starting January of this year.
If your mom turned 65, you can get her to be your payee and you can get whatever she would get. That’s how it works with me and my dad. I get the maximum I can get. It’s less than 1500 though. Although not that far off.
I don’t get the max although I made quite a bit of money when I worked and I worked about 23 years. You would think I would get the max but I don’t. Although I spent half of those 23 years making minimum wage. That’s probably why.
Yeah I think it’s less about how many hours you do and more on how much you pay into social security
I was still paying up to 30 dollars weekly check.
yeah, that, and Medicare.
do you think it might have something to do with Federal
because I was only getting a few dollars on each check taken out,
FICA I think was more, but Federal was very low, next to nothing.
@Daze, I think FICA is the social security tax. Federal is the federal income tax.
I always thought if you’re laid off, it’s for unemployment insurance,
but not sure though.
It is for unemployment insurance. But here in Canada unemployment only plays you 55% of your earnings and for only 50 weeks.
Disability would be next to nothing for me (under a thousand monthly) I am better off working for myself when I am healthy and able then to use it.
I understand funds are allocated accordingly and government is trying to do their best but I can’t imagine anyone using assistance and not scraping by. These low amounts of money cause us to lower our standard of living usually resulting in us not eating healthy or having proper outerwear etc which just result in ya being less healthy than we can be. If we were better taken care of I believe we would be healthier and live more fulfilling lives, be able to work, learn, care for ourselves and our families.
But that’s just my opinion.
Social Security is its own tax. I am almost maxed out but not quite and my career was in the military so definitely wasn’t rich but made good money about the last ten years. I think I paid about $150,000 in social Security taxes when I was working.
