Schizophrenia Case History 1 – Overmethylation

Judy W., age 26, was working as a nurse when she developed a sleep disorder followed by high anxiety, a collapse in work
performance, and auditory hallucinations. She reported a persistent condemning male voice telling her she was worthless and
should kill herself. Judy received a leave of absence and returned home, but her illness progressively worsened. She saw a
psychiatrist and experienced weekly counseling and group therapy that didn’t bear fruit. She was hospitalized for a week and
began taking Zyprexa, Tegretol, and Zoloft, which reduced the hallucinations and allowed her to sleep.
Judy’s maternal grandmother had a history of severe anxiety and depression. As a child, Judy underachieved in school but
had many friends. She especially loved art and music. Metabolic testing revealed a very depressed blood histamine level of 10
ng/ml, and she was diagnosed with overmethylation. In addition, she exhibited elevated copper and depressed zinc levels.
Judy was treated with folic acid, zinc, niacin and vitamins B-6, B-12, C, and E, which she took along with her medication.
Her nutrient therapy was aimed at reducing norepinephrine and dopamine levels while increasing GABA. She reported a
worsening of anxiety the rst three weeks, followed by clear improvement during month two. Within six months, her
symptoms had nearly disappeared and she returned to work aer a year’s absence. Her psychiatrist has weaned her from
Tegrerol and Zoloft, and she continues on a low dose of Zyprexa.

Schizophrenia Case History 2 –Overmethylation

Robert, age 25, sought nutrient therapy aer several unsuccessful trials of counseling and psychiatric medication. He was
employed as an air traffic controller in a southern state but had experienced auditory hallucinations and high anxiety for the
past year. He was quite paranoid and secretive and was afraid of losing his job. He complained of occasional uncertainty
whether a voice was that of a pilot or was a hallucination.
ere was no known history of mental illness in the family. He complained of food and chemical sensitivities and had
received allergy treatments as a child. He had been very sociable prior to his psychosis symptoms but had become a loner. He
exhibited several overmethylation symptoms including difficulty sleeping, low libido, nervous legs, and ringing in the ears
(tinnitus). He had a heavy beard, and his chest was covered with thick black hair. Robert’s testing indicated overmethylation
(depressed blood histamine of 26 ng/ml), and he was placed on a regimen of folic acid, vitamins B-3, B-6, B-12, C, and E
together with supplements of zinc, manganese, and chromium. At his annual follow-up visit, Robert reported that the voices
had disappeared and he felt in good health. He faithfully returns for biochemical testing once yearly.

Schizoprenia Case History 3 – Undermethylation

David was a brilliant 22-year-old PhD candidate at Berkeley who developed disturbing symptoms aer breaking up with his
girlfriend. He stopped attending classes, told friends that Russian agents were trying to kill him, and would sit for hours with
a blank expression. He was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, hospitalized for 10 days, and medicated with Zyprexa,
Depakote, and Zolo. Despite signi cant improvement, David was unable to resume his studies or hold a job. He reported a
50 pound weight gain and had isolated himself from his friends.
A biochemical evaluation revealed symptoms of undermethylation, including a history of seasonal allergies, perfectionism,
competitiveness in sports, and sparse chest hair. His blood histamine level was extremely elevated at 170 ng/ml, and he was
treated with SAMe, methionine, calcium, magnesium, zinc, serine, and vitamins A, B-6, C, D, and E. His family reported no
change for six weeks, followed by slow improvement. Aer a year of nutrient therapy, David reported a nearly complete
recovery, and his psychiatrist weaned him from Depakote and Zolo and reduced the dosage of Zyprexa. He has held a job as
a computer specialist for the past ve years and is now married and starting a family. He continues to comply with his
nutrient program and a low dosage of Zyprexa and reports an absence of side effects.

Schizophrenia Case History 4 – Undermethylation

George dropped out of high school and found work at an auto assembly plant in Michigan. He experienced a mental
breakdown aer his 21st birthday and was red from his job. George was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, the same
condition that had afflicted his mother. He was evaluated by a psychiatrist but refused to comply with medication.
Aer four hospitalizations, George agreed to undergo biochemical testing. He arrived for his rst appointment wearing a
metal helmet and had heavy chains wrapped around his neck. George explained that the metal was necessary to keep him
from oating up into outer space where he would die. He also believed that his parents were aliens and not the people he
lived with as a child. His evaluation revealed several undermethylation symptoms including hayfever, high libido, excessive
saliva and tears, sparse chest hair, and chain smoking. His blood histamine and absolute basophil levels were both elevated,
and he was treated with methionine, calcium, magnesium, zinc, chromium, and vitamins A, B-6, C, D, and E. In addition he
was given the nutrient inositol to help with sleep. George had chronic problems with compliance, but he reported signi cant
improvement after six months.
At a follow-up visit, he no longer was weighted down with metal and agreed to see a psychiatrist and receive low-dose
medication support. Aer several years of wellness, he stopped compliance with his medication and nutrients, and his
delusions returned within a few months. He has since been compliant with treatment and reports that he is doing well.

Schizophrenia Case History 5 – Pyrrole Disorder

Mary became the head of a successful family business in Wisconsin at age 29. ree years later, she suffered a severe mental
breakdown when her mother was killed in an automobile accident. Aer many unsuccessful medication trials, she became
suicidal with daily episodes of hysteria. A biochemical evaluation revealed several classic symptoms of pyrrole disorder,
including morning nausea, aversion to sunlight, absence of dream recall, history of severe sunburn, preference for spicy
Mexican and Indian foods, and abnormal menstrual cycles. She also exhibited the classic pyroluric fat distribution, with a
slender neck and thin wrists and ankles along with huge amounts of fat at her midsection and upper thighs. Mary’s lab testing
showed a single abnormality: a urine pyrrole level exceeding 150 μg/ml, more than 10 times the normal level. Her nutrient
therapy involved very high doses of zinc and vitamin B-6 together with augmenting nutrients. She responded quickly, and
the family reported great improvement aer 30 days. She returned for a follow-up evaluation in three months and appeared
to be completely recovered, despite the absence of psychiatric medication. Mary resumed her role as the leader of the family
business, but she suffered two serious relapses in subsequent years when she temporarily stopped the nutrient program.
Mary’s family reports she has been well for the past six years, and the family business is prospering.

This post clearly states that there are important vitamins and minerals that will keep us calm and going.

Is anyone reading this? This is very very important. We are better when we use these vitamins and and when we don’t use them we go to ill health. This is clearly documented and my personal experience too.

These vitamins/health supplements/nutrients or whatever are vital to all Schizophrenics.

The benefit lasts while you use them regularly and if you miss a dose then you go back to ill health. Completely true.

Not completely true.

Where did you get this information?

Psychiatric meds are effective albeit with crappy side effects.

Vitamins are an adjunct IMO

Interesting case histories, Also feel one should take vitamins and supplements to help with sz. Want to take sarcosine, heard it was beneficial. Saw a nutritionist and he recommended a diet to follow to help with sz, along with supplements and vitamins.
