Has anyone on this forum ever been on Zyprexa? If yes what are the side effects you experienced with this medication? My pdoc is thinking of putting me on Zyprexa because of my high prolactin levels caused by Invega. Does Zyprexa cause prolactin levels in males to spike?
I was on Zyprexa for about a year, started at 10mg and ended up at 20mg.
Main side effect was that it made me really really drowsy. I’d sleep a solid 12 hours a night and about an hour after I took my Zyprexa I’d be out like a light. It also made me pretty hungry, gained a lot of weight. No extrapyramidal stuff, though.
As for prolactin, as far as I know Zyprexa doesn’t cause prolactin levels to spike. Typical AP’s, Risperdal, and Invega all can do that, but not Zyprexa. Here’s a study that even says Zyprexa can decrease prolactin levels.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info.
The smallest dose 2.5 knocked me out. And now I’m on 5, I struggle to cope tbf
Sleep, it makes you sleep more.
Weight gain, ive been on 2 weight gaining medicines. Zyprexa one of them.
I eat healthy nowadays. I dont work out though cause Im too Lazy, so i havent lost any weight.
I would say give Zyprexa a go if you have insomnia and schizophrenia or minor depression.
I do really well on zyprexa. I’ve been on it for well over a decade. I moved off risperdal to zyprexa for the same reason…raised prolactin. We are all different but it’s worth a shot. It works well for me and no regrets. Just watch what you eat and exercise. Weight gain is a known issue.
I just switched to Olanzapine last year. It’s a good antipsychotic with manageable side effects. The main side effects are fatigue. I got hypothyroidism from Olanzapine and is waiting to see the doctor for this side effects related illness.
