Zyprexa brand not available in USA

I couldn’t get my Zyprexa refilled this month. My pharmacy said it might be available Feb. 7

I’ve taken Zyprexa since April 1997.

I got the generic olanzapine but it causes me severe side effects.

Apparently a German company (Cheplapharm) bought the zyprexa brand in 2023.
And I’ve noticed a huge difference in Zyprexa since then.

Does anybody else need the brand name “Zyprexa”?

Yes, I must have it also because of severe side effects, like extreme insomnia.

The product seems to be good still as long as I get the true original.

how much would you say your sleep improved after starting the original zyprexa?

In 2018 I stopped taking zyprexa and all of my meds. After 5 months I ended up locked up in a state psych hospital for 3 weeks,They forced me on invega er. I had severe insomnia and severe akathisia so i went back to my old pdoc nurse.
She prescribed the zyprexa and with the first dose it was like flipping a switch, I slept good all night for the first time in over 6 months.

That’s good to hear. I’m taking a brand I think it’s called olanzapine teva, or something like that. It works fine, but I’m curious how zyprexa would be.

What kind of things do you notice differently between the generic olzanapine and zyprexa in specific?

I’ve had severe insomina and akathisia myself on a med, and I know how it’s like

@Mr_Hope over here experienced insomnia on generic brand of olazanpine like he said, I think it was something that came over time (he has to correct me if I’m wrong). I’m worried about the same

I was on 20mg for two years on the generic one and may as well have taken that time and then some off my life

Not sure if the real deal would have made much difference

Nowadays i opt for letting meds take the edge off but not planning on drugging my brain into oblivion again

It has not been easy or straightforward

Will say as always the caveat depends on the person

I get away with that statement btw as I lost count of how many times I been given the trial and error speech from doctors

I’d also note that the first few years after Olanzapine I crashed and burned several times

Who’s to know whether it was the right thing to do but I maintain taking control of my treatment was a good decision in the end

I was basically dying because of lack of sleep on olanzapine teva over several years.

When I switched to original zyprexa in the start of 2023 things improved drastically, and in the nick of time. Still I don’t sleep well, but now it’s at least manegable.

Obviously this can’t be a common problem, because there’s no way they could have a generic on the market with such a problem without it being uncovered.

I’m not sure how the insomnia happened. I was on original med until 2011, that’s when the generic became avaiable, from then I would sometimes get generic and sometimes original, by 2014 when the insomnia started I was given generic only. I never gave it a second thought that the brand of generic was causing it. I thought I just had grown intolerant to zyprexa in general. I tried to get off it because I had terrible sleep on it. I didn’t see options. My doctor at the time was not being helpful, didn’t take me serious.

Luckily I figured it out before it was too late. I wouldn’t worry though if you feel ok on generic. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it I guess.

I would also like to mention the Dr. Reddy’s generic olanzapine cost me less than $8.00 usd
for 30 tablets. I didn’t use the insurance
My insurance has been paying over $400.00 for 30 tablets of the Zyprexa brand.

Yes, it’s expensive. Over here the state subsidize many meds. I think I paid 10 dollars for generic 5mg pack, while the original was about 50 dollars.

But if the medication is life important, and you tried the generic without satisfying results, you get the original med for free. That’s our system.

But on the other hand it’s common to pay 30-40% income tax here in Norway, or even more, to finance the wellfare.
