If there was a movement, I would want to see a foundation that helps homeless people with sz pay for their meds.
I would have no idea how to go about something like that, but it’s the thing that I think needs the most attention.

I’d just get on benefits and learn to live modestly.
Not many people are even remotely eligible for government support like that. Vets and retirees. People who by and large did their service to this country. We are just born with the potential for this illness, and in the eyes of social security it is just like a physical disability.
I mean. We don’t need a movement… We need a network. There are sz people in every town probably. They should all be told by there doctors about this sz.com.
More sz anonymous groups would be nice.
Really though we don’t need to take to the streets. We don’t need an eloquent speaker. It’s all about how you present the illness to others and the kind of courage you show in owning it.
If every schizophrenic did that… Well I think they’d see that there are some good sz people. You also gotta realize there are bad sz people.

The thing is… People aren’t open in public, because there is dirt on all of us and no I no one wants to live in a world where they are known by all.
You should be thankful that very few people even know what to look for when it comes to recognizing mental illness. You don’t have to let the label define you at all. You are just a person with different thoughts and a different experience… Just like everybody else.
I’m a member of club sz… It’s a love hate kind of thing and it wasn’t my choice. If I feel like bitching about my illness I go ahead and do it. When I think I’ve said enough or shouldn’t say anything I don’t.
You want people to know your sz… Get a hat or something.
If you do though be sure your on your a game. You’re representing a largely misunderstood minority, who really are mentally troubled and do need extra assistance at times. We aren’t normal healthy people. Historically if that were the case there wouldn’t be a need for a movement anyways. We are unstable and don’t handle stress very well. 90% of us smoke tobacco, which is very hard to be a modern professional and do. You almost need more control than it takes to quit to do that.
Man all you really need are some sz friends. And the good kind. You’re in the right place to find them.
Sz people need jobs… But you don’t see them handing out nba contracts to people with fake limbs.
Like we should just create a network and within that network we take care of each other. A voluntaryist secondary denizenship to an organization with no boundaries. We could create a sub economy for ourselves… It doesn’t sound realistic. But we could. Sz only companies. Private organizations have different rules we can just discriminate he normies back.
Software… Even new therapies. Or just general research about sz. These are low resource things we could sell to the world.
Sz music for sz people. You know. People could work on that. 1000000 sz people donating a dollar to a sz recording studio. It’d be top of the line.
I mean people get modern democracy all wrong… It isn’t in the elections it’s in the market. Which products make the most money for what companies with what intentions. Collective awareness could totally reshape things.
The sz network could do great many things for the sz populace world wide. Establishment of free transport to large sz compounds. With docs… You know what docs are doing half the time? Documenting for legal purposes. Just video tape it all. Speech to text it.
Legalities, formalities. Just gotta set it up so 1 doctor can handle more clients.
We are still human beings. We can accomplish many great things. Why waste our time on civil rights when we can change the game entirely. Maybe even show the rest of society that things can be done better. And it just takes people to not be so locked into their ways.

We’re lepers. I really don’t mind anymore. Humans at large are the most weird mixture of smart and stupid. When their ignorance surfaces it just entitles me to dislike them… Which I already do most of the time anyway.

I was thinking of making a couple Youtube videos to demonstrate that we are not all harmful or scary. In fact, some of us are more well organized than people who are disorder-free.
I was thinking of doing this sometime when I get a new laptop & new camcorder. Unfortunately for many on this board, it WOULD include anti-pharmaceutical information. My experience with big pharma’s “medicine” was hell and still is. I would rather promote meaningful meditation, exercise, good nutrition, dieting, and hobbies as a way to cope with SZ, as practical & logical methods will trump “chemical” methods in the long run (at least for me).
But yeah, we need to be regarded as social equals. I think people with Alzheimer’s or dementia should be included in the movement as well, though. A sort of broader unity amongst those suffering from mental “illness”.
I’m willing to die for my cause @notmoses that’s because I nearly have.

I thi a YouTube show would be a great idea! Just remember that the meds do help for some of us, and every brain responds differently to different treatments. Just because meds were bad for you doesn’t mean they would be bad for most of your viewers.

There are people with SZ that actually talk about it on youtube, but they only talk about how it affects them and to let people understand it. Which is great, but I want to see an element of how we as a collective are fed up with how the system treats us like dust under our bed. Like someone should talk about the true reality of the illness and have a speech on what we want changed in our system to better help us as a people. Disagree with me with this statement I’m ok with that, but I view us as a collective people, a culture, that can be persecuted and ultimately be a demoralized group. Many of us in our group are scared, without meds, a home, a plan for recovery, and to be blunt treated like common trash. There needs to be a massive change in the underlying stigma behind our group. There needs to be change in identifying the illness early on so generations after won’t have to go through some of the horrors we face today. We need to put more money into learning about the brain instead of learning new ways of blowing the brain to pieces. We need better technology to map DNA too not only catch possible SZ, but to also spot other disabilities as well. We also should educate children more about the brain and how it develops, in schools, so they are more prepared for the future ahead. We also need a better system of handling psychotic episodes, so no one gets hurt in the process. We also need to change how the news projects the image of us, to not instill fear and degrade us to the level of monsters. We need to affectively learn more about violence, because anytime it happens we all suffer from it, not just our people, but society as a whole. There are a lot more things, but we as a people who are willing and able to stand up and say “we aren’t being justly represented,” need to speak up. We are human like everyone else and have an illness like anyone else can get, and many of us aren’t being treated correctly to the point of self suffering.

I have one on my macbook, but I don’t know I’m not that great at talking especially for something like youtube. Get me with a speech writer/public speech specialist and and interviewer…its on. But thanks for the compliment anyway, and I’d hope you wouldn’t have shame promoting me. It’s just I’m young and see so many people suffering including me and want some change in how we are all treated while dealing with such a currently mysterious but scary illness. Today in philosophy we talked in small groups and I heard people in my group say things on the lines of “as long as they aren’t crazy.” Or “someone would have to be ■■■■■■■ nuts for that.” A lot of people still treat us in the terms of we are just lunatics bent on destruction or something. It really upset me today.

Okay maybe we can all work together on a script for one of us to read. I do some work as a promoter, so I could probably read a script nicely. I think in order for it to be eye-catching, it also has to have lots of jump cuts to visual aids. Maybe we can have a bunch of cuts of all of us saying, “I’m [name] and I am the face of schizophrenia.” I worry I might be lying though, because I technically have psychosis NOS, which my doctor explained as “you have schizophrenia, but since you had a brain tumor, we can’t legally call it schizophrenia.”

We should get Brian Wilson on board. If we got Brian Wilson in on this we’d be golden. And this movement or whatever can become more then SZ, but its all about the baby steps first
Who is that? Should we start a new thread for collaboration on a script? Is there real interest in that? I do have film editing software I can contribute to this project.
