Why is the survivor in horror movies always female?

This has always bothered me. Why don’t dudes ever survive these kinds of movies? :open_mouth:

In “Alien”, it was originally a man who would survive.

Sigourney Weaver in Alien : Ellen Ripley’s is probably the most famous gender swaps in film history. Director Ridley Scott has described his decision to switch Ripley from a standard male action hero to a heroine as storytelling switcheroo. “I just had a thought. What would you think if Ripley was a woman? She would be the last one you would think would survive—she’s beautiful.”

Oh wow, I didn’t know that! that’s interesting.

I can think of two horror movies with male survivors, but they were alongside female survivors. Can’t think of one where just a dude survives, though I think one of the Evil Dead movies might have had a dude survivor. I’ll have to look it up.
