I heard JS Bach was voted best musician by a British pollster. I think because he was prolific and versatile. I always felt Beethoven was on another plane.

When I was at school they said musicians revere the 3 Bs. Beethoven, Bach and Brahms. I always liked Beethoven and now I am older I appreciate Bach and Brahms more than I did in my youth. But the question is a bit ambiguous. There are many composers who are not great performers and vice versa.

Martha Argerich. She’s a modern day classical pianist. She is truly phenomenal.

The disc was sent out to be heard by aliens in other solar systems
They decided against featuring Bach as they believed ‘it would just be showing off!’

Its so subjective. Some of the great classical composers would have to be on the list though for sure. But the all time most beautiful and creative music piece would hands down have to be WAP. Jokes haha.

Philosophically speaking I think it’s about like asking which colour is the best colour… I mean it’s gonna depend.
Skill in music depends on time and effort and natural talent spent in music making. Generally those who are the best will have spent their entire lives making music.
That being said many many great artists have devoted all their time to gaining this skill. Beyond that it’s probably up to your personal liking.
Not to mention that humanity has been around for thousands and thousands of years
