While autistics don’t mentalize enough, psychotics mentalize too much; where autistics don’t seem to have minds at all, psychotics suffer from cancers of the minds they do have

I do try nice first. However, mean works when you…

a) Need to get out before you crack in half, and
b) want to make SURE you never wind up in that situation again.

Part of why I function as well as I do is that I am very aware of how long I can last in a given situation and when I need to extract myself. Anyone who repeatedly blocks my exit does so at the peril of their emotional well-being.

Yeah but this is something 80% of the world will never understand. So they just see it as being mean.

I’m okay with it if it means I don’t get invited back.

You know, this whole conversation has made me realize I don’t give Mr. Star nearly enough credit. He must be in agony during those parties. I think he only goes because he feels guilty making me do most of them alone.

Something I learned by doing: When your psychiatrist has taken you off meds, don’t let your family introduce you to a hot shot politician who later wins the primary for the house of Representatives. He unfriended me on LinkedIn. :frowning:

That is so unbelievably awesome.

I bow down to you, sir.

Hmmm. I just did a search for him, and can’t even find his LinkedIn profile on Google. I find him on political sites, though. Maybe he just deleted his LinkedIn account once he progressed that far. Pretty sure he still thought I was a weirdo though.

Ack! I was trying to find out if it was standard practice for politicians to delete their LinkedIn accounts at a certain level, and I happened upon the fact that I’m a 2nd level connection of Barrack Obama.

That means I know someone directly who knows him. Very small world. I don’t have many LinkedIn connections, and very few have that kind of clout. Now I’m probably going to search through a bunch of connections’ connections to see where this comes from…

Hey, @shutterbug, LinkedIn shows me as a 3rd level connection to Mr. Trudeau.

Want to meet him? Just kidding. I haven’t even figured out how I’m a 2nd to Mr. Obama yet. It became much harder to figure out how you were connected after Microsoft bought LinkedIn.

I think I’ve got it. I only know of 2 of my LinkedIn connections who have the clout to be connected with Mr. Obama. They both have premium accounts that hide their connections. I just ask one of them if he is connected to our last President, and if he isn’t, I buy more stock in the other guy’s company. If that little company has those kinds of contacts now, I think it is worth my risk.

Is that something that most people instinctively pick up?

Yeah, with varying degrees of literacy.

That took too much time and energy. Bad information can be worse than no information, I guess.

I think my new rule is to almost always unlink people who hide their connections on LinkedIn. At least that way I should be able to tell how I’m connected to second level connections without asking around for days.
