I sway or rock when I’m nervous or anxious
I wiggle my toes, pick my nails, and sometimes rock. Although I’m rocking a lot less since I switched off haloperidol
I am constantly scraping the pads and tips of my fingers on rough surfaces and edges. I like the roughness of bottle caps (screw on kind), my phone’s power button, and the edge of my insulin pump where the charging port is.
I actually recently bought a 3-pack of spiky “monkey rings”. They really help. These ones:
And I got this fidget cube for Hubby:
Hubby is autistic. He stims in many ways, but the main ones are finger tapping, drumming his fingers, “petting” different textures (like petting motion on the couch armrest), rubbing fingers against each other (causing sores), constantly moving toes to rub against each other, and the most troublesome one - a tic of adjusting his shoulders in a jerky movement.
He does the shoulder thing every day, but some situations, like driving a car for some reason, make the tic happen over and over. It’s messing up his muscles and joints, in that area, but he can’t stop the tics.
Stimming is most common in ADHD and autism but technically anyone can do it.
I mainly stim by rocking, kicking my legs, tapping things, or chewing. I’m pretty much always in constant motion. I have a lot of stim toys that I find really cool that I play with when such motion is unacceptable.
I used to also spin to stim but since I got a chronic vertigo it’s lost its fun
Thanks @anon19606225 and @Noise for the information
I spin my hand in a very distinct way that is hard to describe. I has led to some issues with my wrist, so I’m not supposed to do it anymore, but I never notice I am doing it until like 5-10 minutes in
I drum my fingers and burst out with percussion with my mouth (Beatbox)
