What's the difference between negative and positive symptoms

  • Negative symptoms. This refers to reduced or lack of ability to function normally. For example, the person may neglect personal hygiene or appear to lack emotion (doesn’t make eye contact, doesn’t change facial expressions or speaks in a monotone). Also, the person may lose interest in everyday activities, socially withdraw or lack the ability to experience pleasure.

What are the mentally healthy parts called ? That is the first time i understand this. I thought always the positive symptoms are the healthy ones.

My peer trainer used to say a way to remember this is that negative is like subtraction, lack of. Lack of energy lack of concentration

Wheras positive symptoms is the addition of. Addition of hallucinating and delusions
