Been wondering lately if antipsychotic withdrawal symptoms were the cause of my insomnia that lead to my psychosis.

Have you had any withdrawal symptoms from APs or ADs?

Very common - But these days, i cannot sleep without the Quetiapine. But as i been taking them for over 20 years, im not surprised.

No withdrawals off the paliperidone injection - apart from obviously turning a bit loopy just before its due.

Nothing Major.

Last time I tried stopping Olanzapine, I got 45 minutes of sleep in a 30 hour time period. I was desperate for sleep so I went back on it.

When i went off Zyprexa the rebound insomnia was terrible. I ended up in the hospital because the insomnia made me psychotic. Same thing happened when i quit Seroquel cold-turkey…first the insomnia then the psychosis. It wasn’t withdrawal in the classic sense, but was rebound psychosis more or less.

I get insomnia, anxiety, intrusive thoughts. I tried cold turkey on a couple meds (AD and AP) and was borderline psychotic pretty quickly. I did a slow taper once and it wasn’t as bad, but it still didn’t work.

the dreaded Akathisia when coming off of Invega.

I was so scared it was gonna be permanent! It was not, thankfully.

I got switched off of Vraylar. Surprised and dismayed to learn that diarrhea is actually a withdrawal symptom.

How did you taper? Quick at the start & slow at the end or 5-10% reduction each month or something else?

I cut down by 20% every reduction. I don’t remember exactly how long I waited, but it was probably 3 to 4 weeks at each dose. I did it on my own without telling my doc though. I wouldn’t recommened it unless you are doing it under supervision.

if i quit my medicine too fast i get prone to car sickness. after i quit clozapine i stayed up for days straight for months, i couldnt lay still for a second, and i felt like i had paracites inside me

yes, the only withdrawal symptom I had was going completely insane. Otherwise, all was well.

When I was taken off AP, I reverted to my natural.state: psychosis. I do not consider this a withdrawal symptom exactly. It is my untreated state.
