What to expect from L-tyrosine

I took my first L-tyrosine capsule today and it has made me feel a bit brighter.
I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has taken this supplement.

From webmd :

Tyrosine is LIKELY SAFE when taken by mouth in food amounts. It is POSSIBLY SAFE when taken by adults as a medicine, short-term, or when applied to the skin. Tyrosine seems to be safe when taken by mouth in doses up to 150 mg/kg per day for up to 3 months. Some people experience side effects such as nausea, headache, fatigue, and heartburn.

There isn’t enough information available to know if tyrosine is safe for children to use in medicinal amounts. Don’t give it to children without the advice of your healthcare provider until more is known.

Special Precautions & Warnings:
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: There isn’t enough information available to know if tyrosine is safe to use during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and only use in food amounts.

Overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or Graves’ disease: The body uses tyrosine to make thyroxine, a thyroid hormone. Taking extra tyrosine might increase thyroxine levels too much, making hyperthyroidism and Graves disease worse. If you have one of these conditions, don’t take tyrosine supplements.

I take it in a combination of supplements, l-tyrosine + l-tryptophan + vitamin B complex (B supreme on the i internet) + methylfolate (L-5-MTFL on the internet) + Vitamin D + Vitamin K (MK-7 on the internet) + Vitamin B12 give me a powerful high and give me some relief from my negative symptoms. L-Tyrosine converts in to dopamine in the brain and L-Tryptophan converts into serotonin which I think is largely responsible for the euphoria I feel. It is all completely harmless with no side effects.

L-tyrosine boosts dopamine in your system. Don’t take too much or you’ll be anxious.

For some people, tyrosine is helpful as far as improving focus and attention. However, it is likely to be a more gradual, subtle benefit, so you should not expect to see the kind of rapid benefit that we often see with stimulants.

Swedish medical center found some benefit for ADD with tyrosine, but the benefits lasted only a couple weeks. Also advised using acetyl-l-tyrosine instead of l-tyrosine due to fewer negative side effects and lower dose used. Discuss any supplements with PCP before taking them to make sure there are no serious drug interactions with your other meds.

Assuming it has any effect on schizophrenia, it could take weeks or months to have any notable effect, since you are trying to build up brain supplies in the right areas high enough to overcome a presumed deficit in dopamine or norepinephrine.
