Mine is the best there is, he knows I don’t want meds that increase my appetite and works around that with the meds he gives me.

The hospital psychiatrists are dangerous they will give you meds that destroy your body that make you fat they they don’t seem to care.

I currently have an NP because my clinic was going broke paying for real doctors but she is good. I have an instinct about her though I’ve seen her only a few times.

I have had dozens of psychiatrists and liked most. I only really encountered disagreeable people working in the mental health industry when I was an adolescent. IDK why?

A lot of them do there best and I hate to be cynical but they just don’t really know what they’re doing. Hopefully this won’t be true for much longer. I feel like psychiatrists have very inefficient tools at their disposal. They can’t look at the organ they’re treating. This is a literal quote from my old psychiatrist. “Psychiatry is more art than science”. This was in reference to the fact that psychiatrist make a lot of there decisions based on similarities they see between patients. “Bob reminds me of joe and joe responded well to Prozac so I’ll give Prozac to bob.” I pine for the day machines replace humans in medicine.

I think they are totally over studied, lost contact to the real world in their bubble. I still feel sorry for them even they love to make my life miserable.

I’ve seen about 5 different psychiatrists and I only had one who I thought was very nice and excellent at his job. He talked to me very respectfully and asked me questions about what kind of side effects I was most wanting to avoid when he was prescribing me things. He also took an interest in my diet and to get me to stop smoking (which I did).

Most of them seem to just chose a medication to give you and when you see them all they care about is that you’re taking it. They don’t care about your quality of life or side effects caused by the medications. If the medications keep your pyschotic symptoms in check they feel like they’ve done their job.

I had an issue where I felt very delayed to respond to things (sedation) and sleeping crazy amounts of time (12-16 hours a night. Occasionally nearly 20 hours). He wasn’t interested in changing the medication and just told me to set alarms and “get up”. As if I wanted to waste my life in bed.

I’ve also seen it with another person I’m friends with who has SZ. He didn’t want to take his meds because it made him sexually dysfunctional. But his psychiatrist refused to give him anything else. He ended up not taking them and got very unwell to the point he was sectioned a couple of times. To me it was a completely avoidable scenario. They could’ve easily just given him a different drug.

So yeah, my views on psychiatrists in general is that they are often incompetent. When I had issues with sedation I eventually told my last psychiatrist the drug I wanted to go on and he agreed to prescribe it to me. My friend who had some medical background told me I did his job for him.

Well, in tough cases, where something might work, but you don’t know what that might be, it depends on the skill/experience of a psychiatrist. I think in my country people are more prone to memorization rather than thinking, so there are no good psychiatrists, I don’t think there is one that is truly capable.

When I was in New York, there were many capable ones, but the government-given health insurance doesn’t pay for them, you have to pay out of pocket.

Overall, I have felt that many, many lives can be significantly improved in the context of mental health, if the emphasis in education was on thinking rather than memorization.

my first 2 were women and they were great, my first psychiatric nurse was great as well, since 2011 things have not been great but i put up with them, I’m reading some notes and i don’t like the way the write about me, I’d love to look back at my first 2 female psychiatrists notes bc i think they did genuinely care.

Mostly negative. I would love to have had a doc who cared about me enough to help me find the right medication so much sooner in my life and then the education to actually stay on it too.
