What job would you do that you can't do now, if you weren't mentally ill?

A sociologist, and failing that a dashing tsarist army major and minor poet in exile.

There are different kinds of lawyers. They’re not all the kind that represent criminals in court.

My dad is a lawyer of several kinds: disability lawyer, immigration lawyer, personal injury lawyer, and business lawyer. His life is pretty exciting. He gets to travel all over the world, especially for the business lawyer side of his work.

And he’s rich. Money does buy happiness… He gets to do whatever he wants. He doesn’t have to worry about money. BTW, he grew up dirt poor. But now he’s his own boss of several companies, operating under one law group name. And he’s living the dream.

Sorry for the long response. I got carried away.

I would like to be a medical biller & coder. I was in school to become certified in Medical Billing & Coding, but I had to drop out after my last psychotic break. My cognitive functioning has never recovered enough for me to be able to go back to school, again.

I was going to go into law. I did prelaw as my undergrad, wrote my LSAT and did reasonably well. Graduated with honors and a 3.9 GPA. I was going to do labour law and stand up for workers!!

And then I started hearing voices…

I should have become a certified public accountant. It would be a lot easier and less stressful than what I chose and I wouldn’t have had so many technicalities involved in getting certified.

What a good thread 151515

No Seriously - I wouldnt mind being a Psychiatric Nurse. The mind amazes me - and i find different mental illnesses fascinating.

Too nutty myself tho - for that to be a reality lol.

I do that a little, I taught myself how to program. I’ve programmed a few websites for clients and myself. Once you learn how to do it, it can be fun because you can create things but it can be frustrating sometimes too, you can write out a page of computer code and it doesn’t work because you accidentally hit the comma key instead of the period key while you were typing out the code (the keys are right beside each other on the keyboard), then you have to carefully read through all your code and find the mistake. Little bugs (typos) like that can be frustrating. Especially when you are learning and don’t know what the hell is going on, lol. You have to enjoy problem solving.

I think learning programming at school would be more stressful because you are on a timeline and given assignments for things you may not care about. I taught myself at home, went at m own speed and did the things I wanted to do so it was more fun.

I taught myself when I was younger too. I have forgotten most of it.

I became psychotic in University so I had to drop out and never got my degree, but when I was younger I wanted to be a geneticist.

I forgot to add: If I didn’t have schizophrenia or diabetes, I’d think about opening a chocolate shop. Maybe sell cupcakes too. Red velvet. Or maybe I could run a Laura Secord store.

I would have liked to have joined the Navy, or after having worked at an airport, I think becoming an airline pilot would be pretty cool.

Do you watch any medical dramas? Or do they bother you too much?
