if it is not a cure
i dont know really if it is making the desired effect or not
sometime i think positively and say it has good effect and sometime i think negatively and say it hasnt the desired effect ?
actually idk if it is working to its limits or not
Meds are the reason I’ve enjoyed such a successful life as a schizophrenic. With medication I’ve been able to marry a wonderful woman, have a beautiful daughter, and work a succession of jobs that have paid the bills so I can live a decent enough life with hobbies I enjoy. Medication doesn’t do everything and I’ve had to carry some of that load myself, but life’s like that. No complaints (other than Zyprexa – ■■■■that med because it’s evil).
Ideally meds should eliminate the hallucinations, delusions and make you think more clearly.
what meds treat your symptoms?
Meds:
Geodon (positive symptoms)
Haldol (as a PRN only)
Wellbutrin (negative symptoms and suicidal ideation)
Supplements:
Amyloban 3399 (boosts my AP, helps reduce nerve pain)
Sarcosine (helps with cognition)
Rosemary oil in diffusers (proven to help with memory)
Matcha green tea capsules (multiple benefits)
I think it varies per person and situation.
I think medication is used way too easily in our societies to just numb people and prevent them from seeing, feeling and solving problems (i mean in general, not talking about sz). In the same way alcohol or drugs does. I personally try to not use meds that way, though sometimes i fail. I dont like to numb things i can deal with myself, even with effort.
In cases of severe enough issues (florid psychosis, severe chronic depression, terror, etc) you can use all the coping strategies you want and still not be able to deal with it. Then medication can help to numb one enough to live a normal or more normal life. Not be a danger. Care for self and others. Etc. Seems like a good purpose. That’s how i see meds at least. What is “too much to deal with” varies per person.
To deal with symptoms, afaik.
It is worse if you don’t take meds. When I was in the mental hospital, my roommate couldn’t even say a sentence correctly…then after a week he started to talk normal, after he took medicine. I thought the antidepressants didn’t work because I didn’t feel happier. After a while of not taking them I got more depressed. So it blocks you from getting depressed, instead of making you happier.
Did you manage to lose all the weight gained on olanzapine while on geodon?
@swordiebrom, Im not @shutterbug. But I gained a lot on Zyprexa too (55/60 to 80kg, used it 3-4 months or so). I now am 68kg at 1m72 and still have a little bit of a belly, but im not as bloated by far anymore as with Zyprexa. Im back in the normal range. I do feel it was and is more difficult to lose weight even after quitting Zyprexa, but i didnt try very hard either. And im also a bit older now (end 30), which might matter for a slowing metabolism.
I believe the ap medicines block people from getting more insane. I’m not sure if I’m correct though. I have a hunch. I think they do other things as well.
I lost most of it around 2008/2009. I went from being close to 400 lbs down to about 210 lbs. I should be around 170 lbs for my height. Then we had some bad years and I was up to 270 again, made it back down to 220 lbs around 2013/2014. This past fall and winter my heart got worse and my old pacemaker couldn’t cope with the atrial fibrillation. Walking became difficult without taking oxygen along and there was stress eating. I hit around 300 lbs in January. I’ve walked and walked and eaten better since getting the new pacemaker at the end of June of 2020 and am now at 242 lbs. I’m still walking every day and trying to work it down. I’m active on MyFitnessPal every day.
I’d like to blame the Zyprexa for it being harder to lose weight, but I’m now middle-aged and it’s just a plain fact that it gets easier to gain and harder to lose as you age. I’m going to have to keep working on it. Most importantly, I need to stay in the fresh produce section of the store, out of the processed food aisles, and out of the fast food drive-thrus that I love so much.
Meds treat positive symptoms most of the time. For some it does nothing and its just a sugar pill for them.
Some meds are better than others.
I take meds because without them I get weird in my thoughts and hear voices and get agitated and a lot of mood swings and severe depression, and been in hospital ten times when I wasn’t taking them properly
On meds I feel more calmer, positive and clear-headed and voices bother me less. And I have stayed out of hospital lately
when i wasnt on meds, i went back to the hospital for 4months i didnt like it. so im staying on meds now, im better now
Ny meds makes it possible for me to live independently but it kills ny creativity and removes ny thoughts. One og the good siderffects og my meds is that I Can t g’et drunk
I am on
400 mg clopixol Depo
400 mg seroquel
And 60 mg geodon
My meds make it possible for me to live independently and stay out of the hospital and hold down a full time job. I take:
Geodon
Wellbutrin XL
Topamax
Loxapine
Ativan as a PRN
Once I decided to stop â– â– â– â– â– â– â– around and made up my mind to be med-compliant, things have gotten better and better @saynow.
The meds I’m on work very well for me and I will always take my meds, although which ones I use might change as time goes on.
So you weren’t able to get to pretreatment weight did you try Metformin add-on?what kind of heart problem you have, is it from geodon?
