do you like them ?> what do you think
Brings back happy memories for me !
Yes I have fond memories of playing on my Nintendo handheld device, back in the '90s.
I never owned an Atari though, but I’ve heard those were pretty canon in the '80s.
I pwned Asteroids back in the day…I could rack up 40 free ships in one sitting…then let my friends play for an hour, then go back and rack up the free men again.
oh man…Galaga, Asteroids, all Atari games, ping pong, space invaders, centipede (on the stand up video games in the arcade). so much fun back then…blew a lot of money on those arcades.
There are lots of cool things.
Many of them are harder, like it’s game over very easily, so challenging.
Games are shorter compared to many of the things that are released now. I find it uplifting to just play a quickie game somtimes… I don’t really like games that dwell a lot.
I like the cartoonish graphics vs the imitate reality stuff that is released now.
A lot of the retro games are, I guess, literally very original. It’s fun to see the games that laid the foundation for games that came later.
The sounds and atmospheres are often great.
I like the sounds and the pixelated simple stuff.
I like old atari games. there is an emulator fo pc.
Rock Paper Scissors, very old and simple but great: https://www.rpsgame.org/
A lot of the games I would consider retro you guys would consider modern. Super Nintendo and even N64 is retro to me
Nostalgia is part of the appeal. I grew up in the nineties, so today’s retro games were part of my childhood and youth. Being in my thirties today, I never lost my fascination with those games and I relish the possibilities that modern hardware emulation offers me in this regard.
I own a Sega Genesis 32X home console.
Ive got a sega too but its one of the digital ones. But you can still put the cartridges in it
we had an atari. I was very young though. Then there was NES and SNES. I loved the pixelated graphics of 90’s pc games. Monkey Island 1 and 2 I could dream about forever.
“You fight like a cow!”
I miss ps1 megaman x or playing old school pc games…
Like many above me mentioned, for me there is a nostalgia factor when it comes to retro games. I started around the time of Super Mario Bros. And Duck Hunt on the NES. Blowing on cartridges to ge them to work, going up to the TV with the Nintendo gun to shoot the ducks, trying to shoot the dog afterwards when he’s picking the ducks up or when he laughs at you. I have good memories involving my sisters and friends when we were kids while playing video games. Inviting one of thenolder kids on the block to pass the final level, stuff like that.
Nowadays video games have come a long way. Some of the mechanics innolder video games which where fun at the time seem very dated now. With that being said, there are certain genres in the video game world that remain somewhat relevant in the gaming world, side scrollers in particular (sometimes called 2D platformers) are still fun. I think due to the limitations of technology in the 80’s and 90’s they cannot really be compare with newer video games for their accessibility. Before video games were more difficult and now they are some what streamlined so as not to discourage casual fans or beginners.
That being said, there are still a few classic games that I would rather play at an arcade if I saw them than some of today’s games. Games like Pac-Man,
Tetris, Pong, and even Street Fighter II. Those are video games a person can pick up and play for a few minutes and have fun. I think that is one of the amazing things about retro games. In most modern games you usually have to invest a significant amount of time, I mean some video games aren’t as fun during the first 10 hours of gameplay. Some video games literally take upwards of 50 hours to complete. I mean sure you can pick it and play modern games but sometimes 15 minutes of video gaming is just scratching the surface.
Before those 15 minutes were super fun and entertaining I think that is the special thing about retro games. They’re really fun from the get go but they’re not time consuming. I mean 10 hours of Pong sounds like an event involving friends.
