What if i really have a mental retardation?

We just talked about this with my mom. In fact, I have some tough psyschosomatic symptoms, which include for example to feel my brain in my head. Theres the hypersensibility too now. All this makes me to cant think, I feel my brain inside my head instead of having ‘‘good’’ thoughts…
I am complexed about my dumbness tbh… That’s why my mom says even that I could be borderline or autistic or smth else…

You may be confusing mental retardation with psychomotor retardation which is a central feature of schizophrenia.

Psychomotor retardation is a phenomenon probably most commonly seen in depression and schizophrenia. It literally refers to a phenomenon where individuals with one of these disorders experience a marked slowing in thinking process and movement. It is a symptom of the disorder and improves with effect treatment.

Mental retardation implies a lower IQ or learning potential. The IQ is normal generally with shizophrenia. Nonetheless, if you are worried about a not achieving milestones expected for your age, a psychologist should then test your IQ, memory, handwriting, and achievement scores. A physician can then assess for a cause, if present.

I was literally lacking thoughts and ideas, innercircle… Its not just a slowing in the thinking. I have these blockages in my thinking. My mom doesn’t want to hurt me, but she says its a bit like dumbness…
I don’t want more doctors, I think ill do it somehow…

I dont find my sz friends lacking thoughts like this tbh… its just me. Thats why maybe i have some other strange mi… but yeah, i still dont think. I just have my dumb inner dialogues, but its quite limited wow.

Hey @Anna1. I have dealt with psychosomatic anxiety symptoms a couple of years ago. I have also had the feeling my brain in my head feeling in more recent times. I honestly don’t know if it is a side effect of antipsychotics or an anxiety symptom. I just don’t know. I think I have seen one other person on this forum mention that feeling. Either way, I don’t think it is serious.

Yeah, it could be an anxiety thing. I worry a looot now… i also ruminate a lot without an emotional relief… maybe the anxiety could be an obstacle of thinking, you could be right. The problem is that i am like this since years and my life situation is bad. Itll be tough to go out from the anxiety, but ill try to fight. The time is running out for me, thats all. But i can be anxious even in the small gestures of the every day life, i ruminate in order to make some tasks. I am shaky in my body and i feel my brain in my head. Do you also think we became dumb because of the anxiety? Wow
Take care

Exercise is good for the brain, both physical and mental exercise. The good feeling is when you are able to connect the neurons altogether.

I’m pretty sure that I suffer with psychomotor retardation.
It’s more apparent when I’m out in public.

Just from reading your posts, I can assure all of you that none of you seem to be mentally retarded.
You all seem pretty sharp and articulate.
Not being able to be quick on your feet during conversation is probably more of an anxiety issue than anything else.
