What does the split mind stand for?

I offcorse know that schizophrenia is not having several personalities (DID), but what exactly is “split mind” in schizophrenia? Its derived from greek words Schizo (split), phrenia (mind).

What I read was that it meant to describe a split from reality

Its the part that deals with losing ng touch with reality I think.

I had this idea that it might ble a split between ego, and other parts of the personality, like super ego or all this things I forget the names of. Because that would really explain voices IMO.

I heard it refers to the brake down of the thought process.

I think it refers to being unable to distinguish reality from unreality. It’s a big reason why schizophrenics often believe their delusions so strongly.

It’s kind of a misnomer, IMO. Has to do with a joining of reality and the dream state. Normal people have a healthy split between the two, so technically they are the schizophrenics.

Schizophrenics should be called “iungo”- (latin for joined) phrenics.

I think the term comes from seeing voices as a part of the brain that is no longer working properly as part of the whole, but instead has been somehow separated from, or has rebelled against the main self.

Fractured consciousness… ■■■■■■■ inner word is pitted against itself… it’s as fun as hell… quite literally
