What do you think of the word ''schizophrenia''

what do you think of the word ‘‘schizophrenia’’

A brilliant question!

I absolutely hate the word now. If they had a pill that fixed it without side effects, I’d love the word.

I think it still confuses the lay person. There is a public sentiment that schizophrenia means multiple personality disorder

Etymologically, it’s an outmoded term, but we know what it means.

It sounds weird. I think it’s the weirdest sounding medical term that I’ve ever heard of. I actually do believe that I have two separate personalities or just a split of the one for some reason. I was born like this I think. Some men are endowed with having two souls. This is even described of someone in the Bible somewhere .

I personally dont like referring to myself as mentally ill. I prefer “f*cked up in the head” lol :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I hate the word psychosis. What are normal people supposed to think when the word has psycho in it. I had an argument with a doctor about using that word, I don’t like it at all.

Schizophrenia is such an obscure label that means so many different things. I think they diagnose you with it because there are so many ■■■■■■■ things wrong with you so you get put under that term.

I mildly dislike it. What I hate is the word “Schizo”.

The Greek etymology of the word actually means broken soul or broken heart.

Despite the origin of the term, from Greek skhizein, meaning “to split”, and phrēn, meaning “mind”,

I hate that word. Here its pronounced like “shizophrenia”" which sounds even worst.
The most of all a hate the implicit self stigmatising behind some of the labels.

When I was diagnosed with it I had heard of it but I had no idea what it was and honestly I wish that were still the case.

I think that word has been a great harm to those of us who have this illness. I find it absolutely appalling that the professionals have not noticed how ugly this word is. I think it should be changed and cleaned up as soon as possible!

I dissected it into skits-a-friend. In other words, we make up plays and stories as our friends instead of being reality based.

I don’t see anything wrong with the term.
