What do you all think of Mickey Mouses Star Wars

I love Star Wars. I liked the original trilogy, i liked the prequel trilogy, i liked the video games, and i liked the lego sets. Its a great escape for me. But im not excited for Star Wars anymore. The last jedi is coming out in a couple weeks and i just keep saying “holy ■■■■ holy ■■■■ please don’t mess this up Disney.” I liked Rogue One even though the dialogue sort of lame and they had 2 big inspirational speeches about how we all need to have hope. I don’t like that in movies where they shove hope obviously in ur face to get a little tittalating reaction from the audience. They blew up the first death star, outgunned and outmanned, and u didn’t hear Carrie Fisher go “we need to have hope guys. All we need is hope and we’ll win. YEAH!!” But i still liked Rogue One because of the father character who created the Death Star and u got to see Darth Vader go off on some rebel scum.
Now the first time i saw The Force Awakens i was just super excited to see Star Wars again cause the last time i saw a new film was episode 3 which i thought reveng of the sith was fantastic. However i still left dissapointed but i couldn’t really put it to anything. I saw it a second time and i said “wow this was garbage.” Kylo Ren was boring to me but i was still glad they killed Han Solo cause Harrison wanted him dead since the original trilogy. And it felt exactly like a new hope remake (putting plans in a droid and having to take down death planet which was basically death star 3). But then i found a term which is fitting for these new movies which is “fan service.” BB-8s creation was only to sell toys, Captain Phasma was a boba fett rip off, Poe made a modern day joke to Kylo, Kylo Ren is just fan service to moody teenagers, having to find Luke on a scavenger hunt was again fan service, death planet is death star nostalgia and so on. The only new character i enjoyed was Finn and his dynamic with defecting from the first order. They even shoved Nazi stuff in ur face while the original trilogy it was more subtle. Like when they are on death planet and the guy is just screaming (hitler) and the stormtroopers raise their fists (sort of nazi salutes but for some reason they made it into the black power fist which was weird). It was like Disney just ripped everything good about Star Wars out and just made it into some fan fic bull ■■■■. And now ive seen trailers for the last jedi and i don’t think im going to be that suprised when i see it. I know they have to kill off Leia cause Carrie Fisher is dead (rest in peace u amazing angel). Im pretty sure they are gonna kill off Luke as well. And it just again seems like more fan service postmodern pop culture being shoved down my throat. The Porg which is the furry critter with Chewie is again made to sell toys and any anime fan will know this that theres always that unuseful cute character in anime (neon genesis, fairy tail). They are even adding a human character with purple hair which i have no problem with people coloring their hair it kinda looks cool but again just shoving todays pop culture down my thorat. At this point i wouldn’t be surprised if they have a Trump character in the movie. Like a discount Jabba the hutt that says “believe me everything is great.” But this is getting extremely long so ill stop here even though theres more to say. Not trying to ruin the movies for anyone just trying to express my opinion. And it could be argued that even Lucas’s versions were fan service made to sell toys but he wrote the scripts before they even became popular. Everyone thought star wars would fail so its kind of impossible to write fan service if u have no fans. But what do u think about the terrible Mouse with a stupid laugh controlling something i loved as a kid and still enjoy today?

I don’t mind how fan based playing to audience, I just watch for the story and pay no attention to why it is how it is, just being pulled into the story makes me love ALL the Star Wars, there original even if there are similar concepts, there’s always a spin and twist each time…

I didn’t even like the story for episode 7. I don’t know y but i just felt that whole movie wasnt fascinating at all. And this is coming from a guy who knows most of the lines from episode 4. U could play me just the soundtrack to episode 4 and 5 and i could run a play by play on whats happening in the movie. I don’t know y im so cynical about these new movies but it doesn’t feel the same. Im not even that big a nit picker on movies even though this post says otherwise. I also just like a good story with good characters. Like everyone hated on the new blade runner for being too long but i loved it. Blade runners story was incredible and ryan gosling was fantastic. But it just feels like Disney is slowly destroying my childhood like they don’t care.

Yeah, I think your original post hit the nail on the head. I have the force awakens on dvd as I can’t go to the cinema. BUT I’ve only watched it once. I enjoyed parts of it but never had the desire to watch it again.

I’ve watched anh/tesb/rotj thousands of times lol.

I think the last jedi will be good though. Disney are free of the past now and can be good story tellers.

Excellent post @Kazuma !

Its extremely unpopular but i even liked Jar Jar. One because hes a great dumb character that rises to the top somehow and two he has brought on one of the greatest conspiracies ever. Just look up “jar jar binks sith lord” and ull get what im talking about. And the whole build up to Obi Wans and Anakins fight in the end. U have 2 people that have become great friends but then out of love for Anakin Obi Wan decides he has to kill him for turning to the dark side. And if u didn’t notice Anakin actually did bring balance back to the force in the end. When he just turned he killed all the jedi and in the end he killed Palpatine which is technically bringing balance to the force. With no jedi and no sith there is ultimately balance in the force

Yeah I’ve come across that theory! I’m glad you enjoyed the prequels.

Out of curiosity what movie did you first see? Did you first see the prequels ?

No my parents had the original “special edition” trilogy on vhs that i saw when i was like 5. I still remember that horrible cgi of jabba the hutt in a new hope. I loved the battle of hoth and still think its one of the best fights ever in movies. Even better then lord of the rings fights (unpopular i know). Then i saw episode 1 on dvd after it came out on dvd. The first star wars i saw in theaters though was episode 2. Then episode 3 in theaters

Though i have never seen the theatrical version of the original. Thats impossible to get even though thats the older generations favorite version cause theres no jabba in the beginning and Han shoots first

That’s exactly right. George Lucas has a lot to answer for.

The original-original (i.e. not the special versions) versions were released in lowish quality on dvd back in 2006 I think.

O nice. Im trying to get the blu ray discs of the original/prequel trilogy cause my dvds of star wars are becoming pretty scratched up and it can be hard to play them. They sometimes skip and won’t play especially on playstation. I can’t imagine how many times ive put the original trilogy into and pulled them out of a disc reader lol. I got this booklet with all the star wars (except 7 and rogue one), all the Indiana Jones (except 4) and all the James bond on dvd.
