What am I supposed to say to my pdoc

I don’t know what I should be talking about with them

I don’t either, I’ve had horrible experiences with monster pdoc…like there’s a song by the talking heads. Anyway, I just meet with mine once a month for 15 minutes and talk about how I’m doing on my current meds. Otherwise I have people there at the mental health center who can be there when I don’t know what I’m dealing with.

Ask them this question, tell them how you feel about this and see what they say. What do they talk about with their other patients?

How long have you been seeing him/her?

Can you talk to your pdoc about how you feel and what is going on in your life? Or maybe if you are aware of symptoms ask him or her if there is a good treatment for them. Just be honest as it’s the best way to get help.

Tell your psychiatrist you don’t really know what to say and let them initiate the conversation.

Usually mine just asks me a lot of questions. I don’t really know what to say to initiate conversation with him.

I had the same problem when I was in psychotherapy. I ended up talking about the same issues over and over again because I didn’t know what to say. I had the feeling the pdoc was dismissing the validity of some of my experiences. I think that kind of thing places distance between the pdoc and the patient, making it harder for the patient to feel comfortable with the pdoc and open up. I think a lot of my problem was that I just wasn’t ready for psychotherapy.
