I think the tolerance to disagree on topics here on the forum is too low. Also the tolerance to criticism, or a quarrel on a topic. We should be better to accept disagreements and don’t suspend people for having a position we disagree with.
As long as it is open and on the forum, at least. Life is a mess, we disagree, and some people we don’t like, others we do, and this forum should not be only for small talk or talk about which meds to take but portray life as messy as it is.
Some weirdos we like, but others are shunned. We should be more open to weirdos that don’t even fit into our own concept of weirdos. Some people are just different, even among shizoes.
I’ve seen civil debates where people agreed to disagree and nobody felt lesser for it. Situations escalate when one is calling the other names or is otherwise insulting them. That is not a sign of weirdness. It’s a sign of lack of respect.
I disagree. I think theres balance here that doesn’t exist on the internet that is “yes” fragile.
I believe if there were too much conversation that creates division. I would not be on here.
I think if you want to debate there are other places.
I cannot moderate myself. I have engaged in debate myself here.
And got the message when the thread got locked.
I don’t know when it crosses the line of the safety of this community.
The mods decide and I think it works.
Yes, that’s partially true. But some people resort to insults. In fact that happened earlier today. The comment was flagged and later deleted. This forum is for support. The people on it are suffering and don’t need insults etc. Sometimes the censorship is too much but lots of times it’s exactly what’s needed. I’d rather err on the side of being supportive and sometimes using censorship to achieve that
I agree but when people are attacked personally and they pay back personally we should not punish the one who answers but simply close the thread or ask both parties to calm down a bit.
Disagreements are usually allowed to continue unless they get to be one big flame thread turn to insults, or violate the rules in some other way.
As far as the moderation goes, we generally try to base our decisions on the guidelines of the forum and well established rules. Not on whether or not we like someone. Moderation is many times a judgement call based on these rules and none of us are perfect, we make mistakes, but we try to do our best.
If someone is suspended they likely did something that was a violation of the rules. It’s not about them being a “weirdo” or “different”.
I don’t want to speak to much for the other mods, but I know this is what I go by.
I understand that it must be quite a challenging job, and I’m really happy someone is up to it, for the benefit for all of us, you use a lot of time on it.
And mostly you do an excellent job, but sometimes i think you misread posts in the hurry - and yes, i have to admit i’m partly speaking of seksoemprico who is a challenge because of his dense style of writing, and a lot don’t like him and try to stir him to provoke an outburst from him, and sometimes he crosses the line when he reacts, but i have also seen other examples where people are quarantined or banned for what i think is minor mistakes.
