We don't know how olanzapine works!

Experts aren’t exactly sure how olanzapine works but suggest it has effects on neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin in the brain.

I wonder what this drug is doing to my brain?

All’s I know is that it works for me and besides the dopamine hypothesis there’s a lot of other things going on.

It’s not that long ago they brought up that antidepressants don’t really effect serotonin like we thought they would. It’s no surprise to see something like this…

Here’s the thing. It works for most. 20 % don’t even get any benefit from meds. The rest get some to decent coverage but then there’s different meds for different folks.

Zyprexa doesn’t work for everyone and that makes it interesting. Is that because we have different genetics and thus chemicals? Or does it mean that there’s different disorders in play?

There just simply is so much we don’t know at our current technology when it comes to sz.

I just hope I’m not getting any other permanent damage from this drug. Besides weight gain I don’t want brain damage or something. The drug keeps symptoms at bay. Despite having voices, but at least I’m not delusional anymore.

Untreated psychosis is most likely brain damage. The drugs stop that and that isn’t accurate but it’s better than that and you know it. It’s not great technology but it works till something better comes along and you know the story here. Yeah. Everyone wants the next big thing but it’s years off and it takes time to work.

It’s no different from any other drug on the market. Honestly. Look at your diet and add exercise and that is the simplest way to better function in my current opinion.

I do not know what it does to the brain, but I know it causes carvings and constipation, hence body weight needs to be kept in order. Keto diet and exercise seem to be needed.

How long have you been on olanzapine?

Many years I think.

Great it’s working so well for you.

I think I did well on it too.

Olanzapine helps decrease my paranoia.

They say the same about most psych meds.
You really wonder how these meds came to be in the first place, and the human guinea pigs that had to endure the early trials of the meds before they tweaked it into something that doesen’t kill you.

These people were most in asylums deprived human rights. It is only because of advancement in medicine and particularly things like antipsychotics that treatment in community can happen

wise words Imnotcrazy I totally agree with you in the fact that mum and I only have or freedom n in the society because of antipsychotics…

I totally agree with you rog. Brain damage happens to those who don’t take there meds and that avoiding street drugs and alcohol preserve brain functions.
