Was looking up a Clozapine and Sarcosine forum thread

Accidentally went to the family and caregivers website. @szadmin had a woman’s photo. So there’s multiple Lebowski’s.

Side note so Clozapine deals with the NMDA and that’s why Sarcosine doesn’t do anything when taken with it. Is that how that works?

Nice piece of info

I think that’s the idea, but sodium benzoate (Naben) also affects the NMDA system, and they’re currently trialing that with clozapine in treatment resistant schizophrenia.

It is a different mechanism of action though. DAAO inhibition vs GlyT1 inhibitor.

I don’t know about all the mechanisms of clozapine, but if it already inhibits GlyT1, then probably there’s no additional benefit to sarcosine.

Does the Gly T1 inhibitor help with negatives? Say I get off Sarcosine and onto Clozapine would I have to still find something to fight the negatives. Just something I have to live with @twinklestars.

Sarcosine is a GlyT1 inhibitor and it seems to.

Sodium benzoate is a DAAO inhibitor, and it also seems to offer a benefit for both positive and negative symptoms.

RESULTS: Both doses of sodium benzoate produced better improvement than placebo in the Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms. The 2 g/day sodium benzoate also produced better improvement than placebo in PANSS-total score, PANSS-positive score, and Quality of Life Scale. Sodium benzoate was well tolerated without evident side effects. The changes of catalase, an antioxidant, were different among the three groups and correlated with the improvement of PANSS-total score and PANSS-positive score in the sodium benzoate group.

I get overwhelmed when I look at Sodium Benzoate. I see the food quality kind and think that’s what I should get. I would probably buy the wrong kind.

Yeah, I’m sure you’d want food grade, but I don’t know a good source. Maybe check Amazon and look at the reviews. People use it as a preservative in home made goods as well as commercial.

Thanks I will look into it.

The amazon choice sodium benzoate has really big grains. I think if they were smaller I might try it. I have no clue how to dissolve it.
