I was a care kid in foster care and children’s homes in the 90s and early 2000s. In all my reports from childhood I never read anything about attachment theory, either from teachers or social workers but now 20 years later I have attachment disorder for trauma as a child. Was attachment theory even around back then in the 90s/2000’s ? Or is it a new thing?

It was developed by psychiatrist and psychoanalyst John Bowlby who died in 1990
Bowlby dealt with this from long back. My wife covered this recently in her teaching training. And he specified in institutional settings. There was a woman who did extra research and extended on his work, to apply it to all children - her name evades me mind.

I think you’re referring to Mary Ainsworth (I had to look it up).
