Keep venting about the disease won’t help in anything. Forcing our brain to substitute negative thoughts is far better.
I am not one who normally vent a lot cause I know that the relief you get from venting is short lived. If I rant or vent you must know that I am about to hit rock bottom.
Venting is a necessary thing for me. I do agree that some people can take it a bit too far, but I think it can be helpful in moderation. I used to never complain about anything, and always just try to focus on the positives. Eventually, I snapped, because I had never developed any useful coping skills for dealing with pain. I just ignored it all for years without ever actually addressing it. So, looking on the positive side is helpful, but it can also be taken too far.
I rarely vent. But I think venting does help. I think it’s an important part of this website.
venting takes two, so it’s not my option.
I prefer hitting a bag than venting.
Every once in a while, everyone needs to vent. But if venting is most or all of what you do, it’s not venting anymore. It creates a toxic atmosphere for yourself and everyone around you. Also, people stop listening and taking your frustrations seriously.
When a person needs to vent, it comes with a purpose. The problem is when a person vents just because she is addicted to negativity.
If I don’t vent I will blow my top, screws and all.
Like a kettle ssssssssssssssyoooooaaaawwww!!
dude hitting a punching bag is venting… rant venting = hitting the punching bag for some… there is a difference between venting and just complaining to no end… its all in moderation… you can only hit the punching bag for so long before your too tired to continue just the same as you can only rant for so long before your just bitching… so some people vent by walking some punch stuff some by ranting… some may say your form of venting is negative as it attaches an aggressive act albeit aimed at a heavy bag to the vent… but whatever works and to each their own…
When I punch a bag, I like to do it. It gives me pleasure and then I forget the negativity. I don’t mean I visualize a person or problem and then punch a bag.
I know I would like to get one again for the same reason…and its good exercise… was not questioning your venting process at all just defending the rant venting it offers the same relief just the means to reach it is different…
Do you mean that a person should vent with moderation?
Forcing our brain to substitute negative thoughts is far better.
In other words
#Just snap out of it
Lol.
I’ve been trying to vent to my mother about two work problems over the past two days … instead of just listening and letting me vent, she tried to solve the problems. It bothered me. The situations will resolve naturally but I was in a heightened state at the time I was venting and just needed to get it all out.
Solution - never vent to Mum again.
Maybe instad of ‘venting’ should fit better ‘complaining’.
Complain about the disease brings no solution. It’s like a negative spiral that you get stuck.
Now I have paranoia your post is re my activity on the forum, ehhh… I to be blamed for all what is going wrong with this world! Heh… I think it’s time for my tablet
Venting is a good way to release the bad thoughts and put them into perspective. They call it ventilating for for reason.
I agree with you that substituting thoughts is a good idea as well.
After I release a negative thought, I instantly replace it with a good one. Works quite well.
Good point. On contrary of what I said, venting with moderation may be good. But I’m wondering how to make it in a way that doesn’t put us in descending negative spiral.
I see what you mean. I think we just need to ventilate and then move on. The spiraling probably happens when we focus too much on the negatives.
