I remember klik klaks…the two plastic balls on strings that would clack together when you did it right…hula hoops…jacks and marbles…sting ray bikes, those fuzzy headed troll looking like dolls that were so popular…so many cool toys back then…did you have any cool toys growing up?
Sorry. To spoil your topic. But the very first association with your title…was my ex. He was in the anarchist squatting scene. They squatted an Amsterdam building…that hadn’t been used for decades. The top floor seemed to have been the magazine of a '70s sexshop-like something…judging by the sexy slipdresses and “toys” they found, covered with dust.
Now. Back on topic.
I was a kid in the 80’s. So I dont count. But.
- I loved playing outdoors, so we had toys for that. Or built them. Climbing trees, swimming in the dirty stream and building rafts, ice hockey with self-made sticks, playing with marbles.
- I loved creative stuff. Origami. Fimo clay. Drawing.
- I loved collecting things. Like funny looking erasers.
- I loved books.
- I disliked dolls, but they tried to get me interested. I had miniture household stuff. Like a pink washing machine that could really wash dolls clothes. I liked that! For the technology more than me being a good housewife-to-be or doll-mother. But still.
- I liked the early computers. First my dad would program games, when there were none. Then we played mario on the nintendo. Or sonic the hedgehog on the sega megadrive.
- We played with lego a lot.
My mum was real good at creative things. She liked organizing parties or thinking of creative games.
Oh! I had barbies. Also a bride barbie. With a dress, a carriage and horses. But no Ken. I had no clue what to do with them. But they looked nice.
the toys you had don’t have to be from the sixties and seventies…that was just my experience…thank you for your lengthy post about your childhood, I enjoyed it immensely.
Thanks! It’s something I like thinking about. I enjoyed your topic and post as well.
It’s easy to get lost in the less pretty childhood stuff. But it’s so nice to think of all the fun and good things too. For a recent recovery course I had to go back to what I enjoyed in childhood. I was all happy after that.
that’s excellent…glad you got happy again !!
I have and actually still have California raisins action figures from the 80s I think
I had the six million dollar man and G.I Joe growing up.
We had slot car sets and Etch-a-Sketch. Dart guns, slingshots., super balls, Lincoln Logs, plastic army men, Gumby and Pokey dolls, puzzles, Matchbox cars, Erector sets.
@77nick77 ha gumby and pokey, yes ! plastic army men by the tons…tanks…g i joes too…hot wheels for sure.
god i loved toys. it was the 80s and early 90s though. i think blocks and playmobile were my first. then lego. i still like lego and could spend a half hour looking at playmobile sets.
Same thing @77nick77 posted
I didn’t have one of these, but they were popular in the 70s.
I never had a stingray - my bike was cheap. I had jacks and marbles, but never figured out how they worked as a kid. I mostly liked LEGO or making my own toys out of found stuff. I did badly want an EZ Bake Oven. I loved my camera, but wasn’t allowed to use it because it cost too much.
What are jacks?
That is a cool and simple game. I never saw it.
