Thyroid problems

I’ve had Graves disease since I was 13 and I went through 2 radio active iodine treatments (pills) and my thyroid has been considered hypo since and I took thyroid meds since but I was told today my thyroid was to high on my level of meds (I’ve been on the same level for years now and now I’m on lower levels as of tomorrow since I took today’s dose this morning and was only told this afternoon)

I’ve been on Synthroid since lithium knocked out my thyroid 35 years ago…I was on 112 mcg for years but recently when I lost a lot of weight they had to bring it down to 75 mcg. My primary care provider says it’s because there’s not so many cells now that need it. IDK if that’s true, but I guess it doesn’t matter. I’m glad they’re monitoring your labs regularly so they can catch that kind of stuff…a messed up TSH can really affect the psych symptoms!

@WhiteRaven 112 mcg is what my new dose is

Ooh! I’ll send you all of my old pills instead of turning them in to my doctor!

@WhiteRaven lol my meds are free to me, insurance pays for all of it thanks though

@Twialine I feel you!!

I have hashimotos. I take thyroid meds too. Not fun!! I’ve been on the same dose now for maybe 1-2 years but my levels vary. I hope you can get to a good level again very soon.

I weighed myself today and I’ve lost 3 lbs in a week… Probably because my body is going to fast

I developed thyroid problems in my teens and took pills for it (hypo). In my twenties and away from doctors, I quit taking the pills and everything just cleared up due to the changes my maturing body was making. Nature took over and won.

@PinCushion I almost died because of my hyper thyroid issues as a teen… The thyroid controls how fast your body runs including heart

@PinCushion glad you’re better now

I think I was misdiagnosed and was just eating too much which no one would admit.

My sister has this too.

She was super thin her whole life then suddenly put on like 70lbs.

Over a VERY short period of time.

It took them a long time to figure it out.

She’s back to her skinny self,

But it took a lot of work.

@Charles_Foster I get it. I understand all that. I’m glad your sister is back to herself!

I have Hashimotos Disease, too. I’m on 137 mcg. I take a liquid form to absorb it properly. I’ve lost 60lbs but I still need that dosage for some reason. :woman_shrugging:t2:

I use to be skinny… Can’t seem to lose the weight

I experienced exactly the same, lithium knocked out my thyroid, so i have to take hormones the rest of my life. And it didn’t even help my depression. I think it’s a dangerous drug unless you are bipolar, then i can be a saviour.
