i cope pretty well without medication to be honest
It’s not remotely possible for me.
I need to be on meds but I wish to God things were different.
I think it’s accurate wave. Apparently 25-30% of schizophrenics can function (or “recover”) without meds.
I tried going without meds and found out that I was in the unlucky 75% majority.
The question is how well are they doing. I.e. are they barely coping or are they thriving.
Yeah but it says women do better than men. I don’t believe that for a second, what difference does it make what gender you are??
I plan on eventually trying to come off the AP, but now is not the time. I’ll be trying it sometime next year if I can get the blessing of the doctor. I am only considering it because the delusions have been gone for over a year and the Zyprexa does nothing for the voices. It does make me walk in circles a lot though.
Yeah unfortunately I’m part of the unlucky 75 percent also.
I might be in the 25% category but it’s too early for me to tell.
Since SZ is a mind and body disease it’s important to completely abstain from all bad drugs and eat healthy.
There are plenty of ways to cope with all types of hallucinations/delusions etc.
I wish you all the luck in the world @agent101g.
I have periods of next to no symptoms for years and then severe episodes of psychosis. I could probably spend some time without meds but I stay on them to ward off the worst of it. My psychosis goes like this :
Thanks! I do believe I’ve recovered a lot over time, and need the medication less than I used to. I’m at the 5 year mark (since my first symptoms). The first step might be trying a lower dose. I need to handle things very carefully and let my doctor have final say.
Yeah it’s important for your doctor to be on board.
Good luck too @anon57786250
im doing pretty good on meds so no need to change. maybe im cured, maybe im not. the only thing is, I may have to switch to a more affordable med once I start working and get kicked off Medicaid if it happens.
i need the meds anyway, couldnt function without them, the voices would be too bad
I sure wish I could do it. Most of you probably already know why.
I miss one dose and psychosis is back.
Predicting which individuals will be in that 30% is the $ million question . Get it wrong and the effect can be disastrous .
I’ve talked to my husband about going off meds completely (since he’d have to deal with the psychosis as much as I were I to relapse), but I don’t think my pdoc would approve. Right now, I am cutting back, but even that is on a trial basis.
