This is strange

Recently someone invited me to join a FB group for those with Native American as she thinks I have such ancestry. I don’t think so but I have matches with such ancestry. I went through people with my surname at Gedmatch and got a possible match to a Hannah Gattey . Born in Norfolk England.

I can see this

I see the words Cherokee and North Carolina, but when I click on the Wilson family tree link there’s no mention of those words .
Now I’m thinking am I seeing words that aren’t really there. It just seems like a huge coincidence given having recently joined a FB group where people have /or think they have NA ancestry inc Cherokee. Or is someone somehow winding me up?

Need to reality test this. Can you see what I see?

I’m not sure what you are saying. YOu are aware that CHerokee, North Carolina is a place and not a ethnicity right? Cherokee is a town in North Carolina.

I’m a bit tired and maybe I’m misunderstanding you.

Maybe I’m wrong. I’m pretty tired and don’t necessarily know the format of this thing.

No, @Bowens, that’s how I took it, too.

Cherokee is a location in this scenario.

I’m aware it’s a place, but there must’ve been a reason why the word Cherokee was used. From Wikpaedia

Indian reservation[edit]

Portions of the Qualla Boundary, also known as the Eastern Cherokee Indian Reservation, are located in Cherokee County. These are non-contiguous and are separate from the main part of the Qualla Boundary, which is in Swain and Jackson counties. The land is exclusive territory of the federally recognized Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and is protected by their Tribal Police. Following the success of Harrah’s Cherokee Tribal Casino in Cherokee, the EBCI opened a second tribal casino in 2015 on a plot of their land here, located within the Murphy city limits.

I’m sorry, I’m not understanding what you’re saying. I’m assuming based on your pic that she was married in Cherokee, North Carolina. I don’t see how that is relevant to you joining a FB group where people think they have NA ancestry.

It just seems like a minor coincidence to me.

Imma leave this for someone else to figure out. I need some sleep.

GOod luck sorting it out @firemonkey .

My brother did a DNA test and I have a half of one percent South American Indian blood. I believe a distant Portuguese relative had sex with a native of Argentina.

My great or maybe great great grandmother on my father’s side was Sioux, I think??? Don’t quote me on her tribe… There is a picture of her and her husband, and it’s quite obvious by looking at her that she’s native to America.
