Hello everyone! I hope you are all feeling better. I’m thinking of starting a part-time job. I’m not well enough to go head on into full work. I have no work experience cause I was still in med school when I was diagnosed, I had to drop out but I’m determined. I was thinking working part-time in a cyber cafe or a mobile phone retail store. Do you guys have any ideas, I would really appreciate your input
Sounds good, def start part time
Full time is a HUGE commitment
Even the most functional szs often stay part time and split between making a thousand dollars a week and disability
Good luck!
Thanks for your input. I’m grateful. How are u? I hope well. Are u working part-time too? I have to work even if it’s part-time, there’s no disability benefits in my country. Our attitude towards mental health is poor
Hi phoenix! Part time sounds great, good idea! Maybe a coffee shop? Good luck
Coffee shop. OK, thanks for the input, I hope you are well
No I volunteered for a while but currently just waiting to go back to school, living off disability
What country are you?
OK I wish you the best with school n life. I’m from Nigeria, In Africa
I would say start part-time and then see how it treats you. I was practically not in school when I was really ill (I just didnt go to class but showed up at exams and did well), then when I got on meds and better, I went into school full time, but after an experiment.
The experiment was watching a Robert Sapolsky (Neurobiology, Stanford) lecture series and treating it like a real class on the internet. I still have my notes, I even refer to them sometimes- interesting material.
but see what I did? I did a no-risk test-drive at home with my tuned up brain. The equivalent is volunteer work.
Whoah cool
I was thinking yesterday about how we only have one African here that I know of @Hadeda , while the other continents are represented well , besides Antarctica , my favorite basketball player from my youth was from Nigeria, emeka okafor
Good to meet you Phoenix
Your lucky your doing really great in school. I’m happy for you
Good to meet you too. Where do you live?
Connecticut, USA
Emeka okafor went to my states main university, and he was our best player, that’s why I liked him so much.
He graduated in 3 years with a 3.8 gpa, he was quite smart besides being a great basketball player
thanks- I am one of the luck guys who responds to treatment well. I know what I am fortunate to be in the 20% to fully recover and live independently. I think it is just something that happened to me- the odds of full recovery are slim to none, and it’s not all stuff we can control.
It’s not a matter of what you can do, that much is pretty much determined by things you didn’t choose and can’t change.
It is a matter of how much you are willing to do given what you can do.
My friends brother had an order entry job. There was a good amount of computer work involved and it was also hands on. Usually the team is small so its still intimate. It’s not very stressful work.
Yeah he’s a great player. I use to play basketball myself but I was just average at it. I can’t remember the last time I played. Connecticut wow. That’s really nice. How are you preparing for the U.S elections? Do you have a favorite?
Well said words. You’re right. Thanks
No I don’t have a favorite haha…I don’t like the two party system so I’m voting for Gary Johnson…the libertarian candidate.
Don’t like trump or Hilary so I’m voting for what I believe in, even if he has no shot.
That’s nice. I don’t do too well with stress. Thanks
It’s good to vote for what one believes in. In my country last year was the first time a free and fair election took place since independence. There use to be a lot of vote tampering n corruption
Hi phoenix and welcome to the forum. Part time work sounds like a good plan. That way you can try out different jobs to see what best suits you.
This is a good reminder for those of us in the U.S. that we’re very lucky to have a pretty good voting system in place. We sometimes forget that (when we’re to busy complaining about the candidates).
