The Rise of Individualism: Why Community is Dead

Here’s a great video I just watched. Just some food for thought.

The Net allows me to be part of communities that are not available to me locally.

I like it.

Individualism exists in the English-speaking continent of North America. Communal or community exists in Chinese-speaking regions of East & Southeast Asia.

Community is live and well in China whereas Individualism is looked down upon.

I only viewed a brief portion of the video. I think induvidualism and community can co exist. Why can’t be have both? We don’t have to be a hive mind to have community. We can have community and be individuals at the same time, IMO.

That was the most civilized time of my life. I really enjoyed it and I miss it now. No crowding, no having to be around extroverts … just amazing.

No, I ment a book.
If you watched video, you can see graphic charts…
I just imaginated, bc book is relised in 2000.

For me, that process is still running, cause I live in redneck city, and only one that wears two masks still, I’m alienated quite a bit.
I had terible year behind with repeated infections, and pneumonia…

Usually family and extended family will accept and take care of those who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Japan has a term called Hikomori ひこもりwhere those with schizophrenic symptoms isolate themselves within the family home compound.

Ok, thank you…
Only question I have is treatment options…
If you could write if there are modern meds, and does self isolation in Japan mean taking meds…
I’ll will ask no more… :v:

China does not have the modern anti-psychotic medication of the West such as slow acting injectables in the rural areas. Urban areas or the Eastern coastal cities do have these medications. However, @green5 (南京) or @walterchang (沈阳) would be best to ask. In-patient care is similar between West & East where diagnosis is done at the hospital but out-patient care is so different because in the West, most schizophrenics are instructed to live in group homes or find rental accommodations. In the East, family members allow those schizophrenic family members to live with them.

Self-isolation in Japan by those schizophrenics are usually medication compliant. Hikmori ひこまりchildren isolate themselves with Japanese Manga (漫画) or excessive gaming (游戏)

I think a balance between community and indivuality is best. But no doubt media is driving new generations towards individualism in Western countries at least.

I think community is at my heart, but growing up media influenced me to think that individuality was important. But now growing older I am at peace with not striving towards this.

I love community and i hated being alone when i was unwell, luckily i met someone and was with her for a long time and we were basically working together, i have my own thoughts though.

My community means a lot to me and i’d like to improve it, common goals, the common good  its all about trying to make the world a better place i guess. cant do that alone.

Some people like socialists and marxists push for a collectivist culture. Where we are all like worker bees doing our part for the whole. Thats the aim though, it never works out in reality if you look at history.
Personally i like the idea of a fusion between individuality and community. Where you have your own human rights without infringing upon those in your culture. And the family unit being the most sacred and important aspect of a society. Anyway im raving. Probably too political for this forum sorry.

civilization raise and fall for a reason😷

I want to reconnect with my community, but there is no meaningful supports to help that goal…

Asked if there was peer to peer support, but the answer to that was a firm no

Told social services I don’t want their help. Sending over a paid friend is not the falsehood I want to rely on
