The Rings of Power

Anyone watching the Prime Video series The Rings of Power?
I watched two or three episodes and thought that it was a big flop, and apparently it cost millions to make.

What do you guys think?

Thumbs up or thumbs down?

I found all and everything to do with lord of the rings to be a big yawn fest.

I haven’t seen The Rings of Power and don’t intend to!

As a Tolkien tragic I’ve seen a bit but will wade through it. I’m big on the original lore and they really do take some liberties and just make stuff up. I will say though I don’t mind some of these choices. If your critical of Tolkien it’s because it’s a whitebread world where women play no real role in the stories. I like that they are trying to update that to modern tastes. Putting in people who aren’t just Anglo Saxon isn’t a bad thing either.

I watched the entirety of what is out so far yesterday. I will say I was not impressed. It is not as good as the three original movies. I found it a bit boring. I did however watch all five episodes? I believe that are out so far.
It was a decent watch. Just not my favorite.

I’m not a follower of Tolkiens work.
I just thought that this particular series was poorly made.
Lots of confusing drawn out dialogue.

Not a big fan

It has a powerful soporific affect. I can’t make it more than halfway through an episode before it knocks me out for the evening. Actually useful for nights when I have worse back pain than normal.

I’m watching it as well as the new Game of Thrones. They are both maybe not as gripping as the originals but I look forward to each episode airing.

It’s ok. For some reason my husband really loves it so we’re going to watch it. To me it’s not horrible, but it isn’t great either

I didn’t like it. Haven’t liked anything LOTR since the Jackson trilogy. Goblin dismemberment without a drop of blood was downright silly in the Hobbit movies.

Also you can argue that people of color should be in every movie regardless and I guess that’s fine but I was personally fine with 99% of Black Panther’s cast being black because sometimes a culture wants its own stuff just every now and then… and to some people, that’s what LOTR was, and I think there should be room for debate about that without simply calling people racist and shutting them down because they are white… especially when people of color get movies and franchises entirely dedicated to them alone. And saying that because elves and dwarves exist in the story means anything goes, is kind of disrespectful to the fantasy genre… but I know that’s the popular joke among late night hosts when this show comes up as a topic.

That being said I’m still giving it a chance and I want to say that all the actors are doing a fantastic job and there’s nothing wrong with the plot. It’s hard to choose it over the new Game of Thrones, but thankfully I can watch both.

Wow! Okay i’m going to be the only one here that says i absolutely LOVE this series. I understand it is drawing inspiration from Tolkien’s work, but i think they’ve done a good job at that. I like the characters and the story so far is interesting and engaging.
