This is not about psych meds but shows I think why depot medication is the best option for me.
About a fortnight ago I went to the doctor’s with a rough patch on my right foot. He said it was eczema and fungal. He gave me a prescription for cream for the eczema to apply twice a day and a cream for the fungal problem to apply once a day .He also gave me a prescription for heartburn.
I 've missed a few days with the heartburn pills and have missed a lot more when it comes to applying the creams.
This mirrors the situation when I was on oral psych meds. When I was forgetting 50-60% of the time. I had a similar situation when I was on Sertraline for depression.
It’s not about denial of there being something that needs treating whether it be psychiatrically or otherwise. I think it comes down to something cognitive.
It 's easy to assume not taking meds is about deliberate non compliance but sometimes I think it is not about that.
Can you set reminders on your phone to do it at a certain time? I feel if I know what time I have to take my next dose, like 7pm, I’m less likely to miss them.
Also, pillboxes are good
Old phones also have alarms. When one rings, you can set the next one.
If not, keeping an eye on what time it is or doing it after certain activities also work.
But regularity and structure is the key.
For an example, make a plan to take one dose after breakfast, and another after the evening news, and so on. And do it the same time each day.
Good thread. My problems usually stem from managing internal distractions…but usually I’m pretty good at remembering things…edit depending on what med…or what change…geez, I am mentally ill, ha
I take my Seroquel at exactly the same times every night. A 200mg tablet at 8pm and a 200mg tablet at 10pm. I have alarms set to automatically go off at those times on my desktop computer. Also, I have alarms set to automatically go off at those times on my Google Pixel XL phone, and also on a separate spare phone I have. This is very in depth, and I do not leave anything to chance. Also, when I take the medication I write down that I have taken it in an exercise book.
