The lungs are important

stop smoking, you’re gonna kill yourself.

It might, but it’s not nearly as toxic as people’s attitude towards it.

I’ve been around smokers and it never bothered me.

Actually I like the smell.

But no one sees why people smoke in the first place? It’s stress. And no one needs the feeling of “or else” added to it.

The number one thing you can see when people smoke is a feeling underlying that feeling of a need to smoke.

If you can start to notice that you would understand.

I switched from smoking weed, shisha, cigars and cigarettes to vape. I feel much better.

As a childhood cancer survivor who grew up in a smoking household, I strongly disagree. Smoking is an awful habit and smoking in front of others is selfish.

Okay.

I can’t disagree. Since if I do. I’m wrong anyway.

Except to say that if we think people are smoking are doing it because they are ‘bad’ and ‘selfish’ then it is in fact us who has the self-centered standpoint.

It’s not different from saying cutters are bad and selfish.

How so? How not?

People don’t smoke for ‘no reason’. That’s just what people want to believe so they can have a self-righteous attitude about it.

Consider that our mind affects us more than what we’re doing. This IS a scientific ‘idea’ that is just not integrated in general ‘science’. Doesn’t make it untrue. Just not widely accepted - mainly in the West.

I agree 100%. About a year ago I did something really stupid. I sat in the smoke from this guy’s cigarette. I breathed quite a bit of it in. After that any time I exerted myself even a little my lungs hurt. Now that feeling has gone away, but I still get this wheezing in my chest any time I exert myself. The guy who was blowing that smoke at me has since died of cancer. If he wasn’t so sick I would have kicked his ass.

my grandad smoked and he died of lung cancer in his fifties

Breathing it once doesn’t affect you, its when its repetetive that it becomes unhealthy.

I would see a dr if I had your symptoms.

Something in there struck a light bulb…

Why? Because I’ve had pains in my lungs from having certain feelings alone.

Heart disease is actually the number one killer in Hospitals these days. And it costs us billions.

We look down on smokers, but think nothing of people scarfing down french fries and drinking pepsi cola.

They’re just fine and dandy!

That is because smoking harms people around you, eating unhealthy only harms you. It is the basic thing of “Your right to swing your fist ends where my face begins”

Basically, if people want to harm their own bodies, that is their decision. We can’t all make the most healthy decision all the time, and there is some amount of risk involved in most things. But if you smoke around someone else, you’re making the decision to choose a risk for them. This is especially unfair to children of smokers who smoke in the house. They don’t have the option of just going elsewhere. And they are more likely to develop asthma, cancer, tumors, etc.

Wrong.

The choices people make with food also affects other living beings like our ecosystem and chickens/cows/pigs/etc (other animals used to sustain these lifestyles).

The lack of care that goes into the practices behind the scenes DEFINITELY affects other people too.

Why?

It also correlates with the rise in dysfunction in a home (since it enables someone to use food as a coping mechanism) and since the toxins and other things used in the practice pollute the air, they DO affect illnesses people can be inflicted with at a young age.

Of course we excuse it because we want to feel superior to other addicts…

Again a self-righteous air is all that people are doing by condemning smokers over other (but not widely acknowledged) addictions.

That is a huge stretch. Smoking in front of others gives them CANCER and can KILL them. Eating ANYTHING causes an environmental impact, and it is unavoidable. Smoking in front of others is selfish because you can always just go outside and smoke on your own, away from others.

By the way, farming tobacco also causes pollution, the same as farming anything else. But food is actually necessary for life. Nobody needs tobacco.

It does?

I’ve been in a number of diners with smokers and my mom smoked, but I never got lung cancer or died.

I also was around caregivers (aged 60+) who smoked (and drank) in the house and did not die or get cancer.

I’m not say smoking is right but it is not the root cause of cancer itself.

What I’m saying is is that how people feel is the root of pretty much everything.

Why do we feel a need to eat excessively or smoke? Why do we feel a need to ‘cope’ in any way? What is the root of this problem?

I’m not concerned with right or wrong, but if we’re going to concern ourselves with something worth fretting about it is how people ‘feel’.

Wrong again.

Closeness and intimacy are more important in life; otherwise no one would kill themselves over separations or loss.

if tobacco is cut from the world, there’s gonna be a problem …

don’t even get started on alcohol …

Is this the game we’re playing here or is it something else?
