The eagle has landed

amazing balls…you rock.

A smarter person would have checked that the cotter pins were secure. That was a $22 mistake.

:sob:

Our nasty small campsite at Chain Lakes from Jul 7, to Jul 11. Was okay, but not great. Not going back.

I was leaving Travers Dam Provincial Park and did my usual light check. Left tail lamp wasn’t working. Blah. No choice but to make the trip home with a burned out light and risk the ticket, which I thankfully didn’t get. I had purchased new LED tail lights earlier, but hadn’t gotten around to installing them yet. Figured I probably should now.

Well.

The previous owner of the unit siliconed the living hell out of the left hand light that had burned out. There’s still gunk around it I’m trying to remove. When I did get it open, water and mud poured out of it and the burnt out bulb had actually shattered. I destroyed the lens cover removing it and needed to wad up paper towel to get the broken bulb out as I didn’t want my fingers sliced up. The right hand unit had mud inside and moss growing in it. Not often you find a tail lamp with its own ecosystem.

Got the new tail lamps installed and they are IP67 waterproof so the moisture infiltration should not repeat itself. The problem is there is no reverse indicator. Not required by law, but probably nice to have. I capped off the wire for that and will add separate white 15 LED longer lights later that will double as backup lights and illumination. Probably next year at this point.

I had intended to work on the solar this week and got stuck doing this instead. Argh. Just not enough free time these days.
