The Brain that Changes itself

You could doubt the conclusions of the study, that is resilience causing recoveries, but you should not doubt the facts, that many samples didn’t take medication for many years and had practically recovered.

But thats what im saying. Her criteria for recovery is different from what we’d usually class as recovery ?

lol. I doubt it. This is because the subjects weren’t taking medications for very long periods, so they should have been very psychotic and not doing well in order for the researcher to classify them as not having fully recovered.

When it comes to Schizophrenia, full recovery doesn’t exist but remission does

Speaking of Nash, does anyone actually have a reliable source to say he wasn’t on medication irl? After his initial episodes

There are some ppl who get psychotic and then not again. But their diagnosis is psychosis not sz.

Not sure if a schizophrenic can recover without medication atm. Maybe.

Nash did not take any medication after 1970, nor was he committed to a hospital ever again.[58] Nash recovered gradually.

Nash vas a genius. Perhaps his brain was structured differently?

A nurse (specialised in psychiatric care) told me that 15-20% recover with the help of medication.

The odds are low.

I don’t have any positive symptoms on meds but have bad negative symptoms. I think even those who recover off meds don’t recover from negative symptoms

My negatives have improved dramatically. I’m on olanzapine and vraylar. The thing is, it took 10 years to notice any progress. I still have a long way to go. But the brain does heal itself from negatives.

Did vraylar help negative symptoms? My insurance refused to pay for it

The most progress I made was on olanzapine.

Vraylar only picks me up just like a strong cup of coffee. But I’m on the lowest dosage.

My positive symptoms got better with time even on same dose but negative symptoms got worse

Risperidone made me super depressed and emotional. I just laid in bed and cried. I was a bad responder on that drug.

I hope I can quit olanzapine in the near future and increase the dosage on vraylar.
