Switching meds. Should i be scared?

Im having panic attacks from switching from risperdal to latuda. Should i be scared? Why is switching meds so hard?

Not scared - but cautious. Everyone responds differently to medications - so be sure to be watchful for signs of relapse. Check out our guide here:

Prodromal (or early stage) signs, which often precede a psychotic episode by 2 or more days, include sudden onset of

insomnia,
tension,
anxiety,
inability to concentrate,
restlessness, and
depression.

'You can pickup on sudden change behaviors, said Dr. Herz, professor of
psychiatry at University of Rochester (NY) School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Among the examples he gave were sudden withdrawal from social interaction,
excessive preoccupation with religious ideas, and drastic changes of
appearance such as shaving the head, or suddenly wearing exaggerated make-up
when previously the patient wore none.

Maybe stay on the low dose Risperdal a bit longer, this med is really hard to come off of.

I am in the process of adding a new AP to the Risperdal - this is even scary! How am I going to react to the new med?

I may completely switch meds but this can be down right dangerous if you ask me - What if the new med doesnt work or gives me serious side effects?

Yes switching meds is a big crapshoot but sometimes things work out for the best, especially if its a slow titration process.

My current psychiatrist is reluctant to completely take me off of the Risperdal - but she is for adding another AP to the picture.

I have had no end of trouble switching meds. I only just got out of hospital as a result of my meds being changed around. I am now on Latuda and Halaparadol and I have stopped the latter because it was causing restlessness and was irritating me to no end.

Good luck Wave. It seems like you are always tinkering with your meds. I’ve been doing some tinkering of my own. Lowered my Saphris a bit to see how it goes. So far so good. I seem to have a lot more energy, not sure if this is manic or not but I like it! Still sleeping 12 hours a night but I’m ok with that as I have more energy during daytime hours then seem to sun-down as night falls, probably when the med wears off.
