Maybe until recent times most females were pregnant by age 16 or 17 and so bypassing Darwinian elimination of the Sz genes. The same reason might explain why females have a later onset of symptoms, they evolved a later onset because that got their child to the age where they could fend for themselves.

My personal thinking is that schizophrenic are part of a group of melancholic people, the sort of depressed type anxious ocd types who think a lot. That makes us smart in a lot of ways which serves society because we’re good as intellectual leaders… that being said that reflective tendency of our minds can be taken too far and eat us alive. … hence mental illness. With medications and therapis we can become healthy though and make use of our skills to help society in a lot of ways. … many of us are very intuitive. That helps society have perspective and survive.
