Study by Yale, Chinese researchers shows new findings on schizophrenia onset
New treatment in the early stage of schizophrenia may result from a finding by Yale University and Chinese researchers, according to a Yale release.
While a lack of neural links in the prefrontal cortex of the brain, the part responsible for higher-order thinking, is a marker for schizophrenia’s chronic stages, it is an increase in such links that signals its beginnings, the research found.
“After the first episode at least, it appears that [it] is not the lack of brain signals that produces abnormal internal states in schizophrenia but instead excessive communication,” said Alan Anticevic, assistant professor of psychiatry and lead author, in the release.
