Still depressed on 1000mg

Upped my dose to 1000mg and I’m still depressed and down in the dumps.

My doctor wants me to go up to 1500mg of Depakote if I’m still cycling, which I am.

Never going to happen.

Just going to have to try something else out if this continues.

My options are little.

I have very little motivation, feeling very sad.

I can’t allow things to remain this way.

I’ve got a puppy to take care of!

According to Google

It may take several weeks of regular dosing before an effect on mood or seizure frequency is reported.

So if you’ve just gone up to 1000mg you may have to give it more time?

Yes I’ll give it some more time.
But Depakote is mainly for mania, not so much for depression.

I’m saddened to hear this.
I hope everything improves and you aren’t so depressed Wave.

Is that a high dose of depakote?
Side effects bad?

I hated getting labs done. I gave it six month for the depakote and lithium. I just flat out told my pdoc man I cant do this. I hope they help you soon with your meds. Hugs

No 1000mg is not a high dose.

But I refuse to go higher.

It’s going to have a negative effect on my physical health.

No I haven’t tried ECT.
Not going to erase my memories

That’s all I have now, are childhood memories.

Oh wow, thats a hefty dose, I imagine! I would personally talk to my doctor for another medication, if you are open to that. I hope everything clears up for you it’s a real tough journey. I know when I’m depressed I stay in bed in the dark all day, thankfully that went away. Anyway enough about me, what are your thoughts on continuing forward? Any ideas come to mind?

@Wave , Tegretol worked very well for me. It eliminated my suicidal depression. It’s a mood stabilizer. But my pdoc took me off of it because it interacts with Risperdal. I didn’t have any issues going off of it.

I was on Tegretol for years in the past.
Same reason.
It interacts with lots of different meds including my Risperdal.

Plus she feels that Tegretol would be too “weak” for me.

She feels that I need to be on a potent mood stabilizer like Depakote.
