Supposing there is such a thing, yes. I’m just saying you’re not using the correct words. An acorn is not an oak tree and a blastocyst is not a human being.
maybe you should study up on philosophy - read Plato or Aristotle to understand what a “soul” means
Name dropping isn’t going to get you anywhere. I’ve read some Plato and I’m not a big fan of his ideas relating to souls. But since you started the name dropping, I will continue it. Read some Nietzsche.
When an acorn germinates it is indeed the beginning growth of an oak tree
when it "germinates"
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/germinate?s=t
“Aristotle holds that the soul (psyche, ψυχή) is the form, or essence of any living thing; that it is not a distinct substance from the body that it is in. That it is the possession of soul (of a specific kind) that makes an organism an organism at all, and thus that the notion of a body without a soul, or of a soul in the wrong kind of body, is simply unintelligible.”
Excellent - Now maybe you can try to understand it
Yes, I know what that word means. And a blastocyst is the start of what could be a human being. But that does not make a blastocyst a human being or an acorn an oak tree. And using those words to describe them is misleading.
not what could be what will be if it continues to grow
I would really like not to close this thread. Keep it civil, please
I’m out of here anyways - I really don’t care for this type of discussion
He’s basically saying the body and soul are the same thing. Which is pretty contrary to your idea of the soul entering the body at some point in the development of the embryo/fetus. But now my patience with you is spent. Have a good day.
Yes, that is why I believe the soul enters at conception. From what I gather you don’t.
If you believe that embryos have souls then you should also believe that sperm and eggs have souls. That’s stretching the idea of a soul very thin. Personally, I don’t believe in souls. But as I said, I’m done.
Yes I believe the sperm and egg both have different souls. Just not a Human soul - again Germination of sorts - I don’t find this a stretch as to the fact that they are living or part of a living organism. I take the word soul to mean essence when it comes to sperm and egg. I also believe human beings have an essence that makes them human.
Sorry @Minnii , I understand people have different beliefs on this topic. I will try to stay away from it. I am no expert and this sort of discussion can aggravate symptoms.
Yes - this discussion has veered off into an almost religious orientation - not something that is helpful to anyone.
Some people believe that embryonic stem cells have the moral equivalence of a human being, and others - typically more science-oriented people, believe they are just cells.
