St johns wort?

i bought it at a supplement shop and they say it helps with depression coming after schizophrenia, adhd etc… have anyone tried it? how do i take it? at night? thanks

I can’t tell you if it works but I can tell you that if you are on medication don’t take it without consulting your doctor first.

In my experience st johns wort is not as powerfull as an SSRI(anti depressant). In Germany however they use st johns wort regulary instead of pills. If you dont have serious issues with mood, it might do the trick.

I read about this for school- St. John’s wort is for depression mainly. Perhaps it could help negative symptoms of schizophrenia too, but is is mainly used for depression.

I just drink loads of caffeine to function and I sleep pretty well which also helps functioning.

I just took it 2 hours ago. im taking it at night to sleep. i think it’s helping with my mood and depression i don’t know if its a placeboo effect

Here’s one report of a negative effect.

I read in a scientificpaper that alpha lipoic acid helps depression and mental illness.

But if you have a liver disorder it could be bad for you.

It does lower plasma levels of many anti psychotics.

my pdoc said st. john’s wort and other herbs are a no no.

Yes I think it would most definitely would help. Valerian has cured my depression after about 15 years, and I took it only once or twice. Take a low dose a couple times or daily, it is not a toxic substance. I feel it will cure schizophrenia after some time. All the natural supplements work very slowly, but the definitely do work better than psychiatric drugs.

Typically, we like to leave inactive threads alone and just start a new thread instead. This is different than how some forums are run, but we do it this way because it frequently upsets users to have old topics revived when they are no longer relevant. It can also be frustrating to the person who revived the thread when they don’t get a reply, because the original poster is no longer active or no longer finds the topic relevant. Feel free to start a new thread on this topic.
