Sometimes/often psychiatric staff are so thick

They should be banned from working in psychiatry.

I think some people who work there never thought they’d end up working in those jobs. They’re just used to dealing with people they’ll only meet for a moment. I’ve found all the staff to be helpful most the time. It’s when they’re not being helpful that sucks. Sometimes they just want peace and quiet.

I can forgive being thick but I’ve come across a few who were maelovent.

I’ve come across some pretty abusive and sadistic Nurses before.
Lots of head games.

Some of the ones at the ward I went to were a*******. They were straight up rude lol. I jus ignored them mostly tho.

My experiences have been good mostly other than humiliating :flushed:
But my follow up doc is not very good… he still is nice though

Omg this title is so funny :joy::joy:

I think… some of them struggle with empathy more than others.

I think the ones in the local psych ward were much nicer than the ones in the state ward…I think it must be a linear progression of empathy that increases as salary increases…in other words, the more money they make the nicer they are (they were even nice while strapping me down!)

We are very sensitive while they are normies, some of them know this and try to be very kind while some others …

A common definition of insanity is, “doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results.”

How frustrating do you think that working with the mentally ill is for THEM?

I bet it affects their own mental health. Especially when people are given working solutions over and over then ignore them. I can imagine a typical day for them goes like this:

“My head hurts!”
“Maybe you should stop banging it against the wall?”
“But I just have to!”
-thump- -thump- -thump-
“Oh, FFS…”

Yes, I have too. Very much so. When I was very sick. But, now that I’m stable, everybody is all nice and peachy nicey, nicey.

I definitely agree with this.

I think there are good psychiatric nurses who have in-depth training and working experiences of mental illnesses. On the other hand, there are many more untrained care assistants who are poorly paid which in turn is responsible for low morale amongst their ranks. Govts must find a flexible strategy to change how we appreciate these members of staff both in society ie. valuing social care, and in a hospital setting. That is what will improve patient’s experiences with staff members. Departments of Psychiatry must also reduce bad working practises and give patients more choice.

Obviously rogue staff members who are clearly in the wrong job, ought to be identified and dismissed from their employment as soon as possible to protect patient welfare.

Maybe I’ve just been unlucky ,but I have been subjected to a lot of character assassination and not much in the way of support. That was especially true when I was actively seeking more help and support because I had the insight to know I had difficulties/problems.
Nowadays I’ll very occasionally mention things which falls on deaf/daft ears. I don’t press things for fear of a repeat of previous abuses, and having to tolerate the lack of compassion and intelligence that comes with it.
Now staff are basically indifferent. Sure they are programmed to ask how you are,but you can tell by the way they respond/fail to respond to your answers that it’s a superficial concern.
Very much a case of going through the motions.

That sounds like it would be an akward situation for myself. To the point of comical.

nurse: “well, lets make sure those are not too tight. l wouldn’t want you to be uncomfortable!”

whiteraven: " well, f*** u** very much. how sweet!"

nurse: “no problem. anything else?”

whiteraven: “could you scratch my nose before you leave?”

nurse: “wouldnt leave with out doing that!”

sounds like you go to the same place i do! when i go in there i am just like Mr. Spock. say the wrong thing and man do they get bent out shape.

They have stock questions (1) How are you sleeping ? (2) How’s your appetite ? (3) Any side effects? Every now and then they’ll thrown in (4)What have you been doing?
If you mention something to them they can hardly be bothered to respond.

Yes, that’s how I got out of the state hospital…
Dumb doctor: “Are you suicidal? Are you homicidal? Do you hear voices?”

Me:“No! I’m so much better!” (Show enthusiasm)

Dumb doctor: “Well, that’s good. Keep going to groups and you’ll go home soon” (walks out door)

Me thinking: What a dumb f#@k! Did he get a mail-order diploma? Who cares? I’m getting out of here so I can be suicidal at HOME and go off my meds until I’m so manic I’ll fly like a kite! Wheee!

The psychiatric staff in the public mental health system dispenses care on an assembly line basis. They aren’t always able to empathize with every client they come across. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try. Some of them seem to start with the assumption that their client is out of touch with reality, and they invalidate his or her experiences. People who do that automatically should be moved into administrative jobs.
