Any chemists who could tell me what it means that SNP is a nitric oxide donor?

Beet juice has nitrates which convert to NO in the body, and have mild effects on lowering blood pressure. SNP is a blood pressure medication. Just wondering if beet juice also might have mild theraputic benefits. But I don’t understand the chemistry.

That’s wonderful for the rats but I’ll be excited when it starts happening in humans.

Yeah, I know what you mean. There was one trial in humans where it worked in people with schizophrenia. There was also one where it didn’t work. So it’s not clear yet for whom it might work.

Thats why sometimes i am hopeful when it comes to ‘finding a cure for sz’. It feels like one day out of the blue they might find something that cures us.
